Day 1 - Arrival in Bariloche & Tour of Llao Llao & Campanario Hill
Fly into the Bariloche Airport (BRC), and a driver will be there to pick you up. Then meet your tour guide for a 4 hour tour of Llao Llao and Campanario Hill, two of the most scenic vistapoints surrounding Bariloche. The journey starts by winding around Lake Nahuel Huapi, and then entering the Llao Llao region. Visit the San Eduardo Chapel, which has a view of the lake. Then continue to Llao Llao Municipal Park, where you can venture on well-marked walking paths. Visit the Tacúl Village and then another scenic viewpoint with overlooking Moreno Lake. Next, head for Campanario Hill, accesible year-round via a ski lift. At the summit, there is a cafeteria where you can relax with a cup of hot cocoa, and enjoy the panoramic views. Then return to Bariloche and check in to the 4* Hotel Cacique Inacayal Bariloche, situated on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
Day 2 - Transfer to San Martin de los Andes
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel, and then transfer to San Martin de los Andes, a scenic mountain town near Lago Lácar. Very similar to Bariloche but much quieter, San Martin de los Andes lies on the route between Bariloche and Villa La Angostura known as the Ruta de los Siete Lagos, or the Seven Lakes Route, a gorgeous scenic drive. Check in to the 4* Hotel Le Chatelet, a beautiful stone-built hotel with a cozy fireplace, a wine bar, a movie lounge, library, pool, dry sauna, and hot tub.
Day 3 - Tour of Chapelco Hill
After breakfast, enjoy a tour to Chapelco Hill, the Patagonia skiing resort destination that has made San Martin de los Andes famous. If its skiing season, spend the day hitting the 20+ slopes. During the off-season, you can take the ski lift to the 1980-meter-tall hill that offers panoramic views.
After the tour, you may want to opt for another tour, such as horseback riding or hiking along the forests surround San Martin. Then return to your hotel for the night.
Day 4 - Transfer to Pucón
After breakfast, transfer to the bus station for the trip to Pucón. Travel north over the Andes Mountains into Chile, and rest at Pucón, which is situated on the shores of Villarica Lake and faces the Villarrica Volcano. Like other cities in the Patagonia lakes region, Pucón offers outdoor activities year-round, from skiing during the winter to white water rafting, hiking, horse back riding, and fishing during the summer. Check in to the 3* Hotel Malahue Pucón and relax.
Day 5 - Free Day in Pucón
Have breakfast in the hotel, and then spend the rest of the day at your leisure. You may be interested in water sports on Lake Villarica, or a hike in the nearby Villarrica National Park, Huerquehue National Park, or Villarica National Reserve. The options are nearly endless in this town that perfectly represents the beauty of the Patagonia lakes region.
Day 6 - Transfer to Puerto Varas
After breakfast, transfer to Puerto Varas, the city at the eastern edge of Chile's Patagonia Lake District. The city was established by German immigrants, and its name refers to the variety of roses that were planted. It sits on the shore of Llanquihue Lake, opposite the Osorno Volcano. Check in to the 4* Hotel Cabañas Del Lago, which is a family-run hotel with traditional German-style architecture and sweeping views of the lake and volcano. Relax in the hotel's swimming pool, hot tub, spa, or suana.
Day 7 - Llanquihue Lake Tour
Enjoy breakfast and a full day tour around Lake Llanquihue, one of South America's largest lakes. The city of Llanquihue itself, is known for its cured meats and sausages, and we'll stop here to try some. Then follow the German pioneers' route around the lake, arriving at Frutillar, which has a colonial museum and the perfect spot for a lunch. Have lunch here in full view of the Volcanoes Osorno, Calbuco, Puntiagudo, and Puyehue. Frutillar is also known for its German-style pastries, including kuchen and strudel. Continue to Puerto Octay to see the picturesque city's main square and church. Return to Puerto Varas in the late afternoon.
Day 8 - Lake District Crossing
After breakfast, transfer from Puerto Varas to the nearby Puerto Montt, another important Lake District city with German roots. Then embark on an 8 hour Lake District Crossing, which whisks you from one end of the Lake District in Chile, across the border back to Bariloche, but this time using a combination of catamaran boats and buses to complete the trip. Pass through Lago Todos Los Santos, Puerto Peulla (where you can get a delicious lunch), Mount Tronador, Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, Puerto Frias (with its emerald green waters), Puerto Blest, and finally reaching Puerto Pañuelo on Lake Nahuel Huapi. Check back into the 4* Hotel Cacique Inacayal. You may want to treat yourself to a delicious paradilla meal in town, where you can taste several of the meats for which Argentina is known. Wash it down with a well-rounded Malbec wine on your final night in Argentina.
