Day 1 Arrival to El Chalten
El Chalten is a remote mountain town in the heart of Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park, most easily accessible by taking a bus from El Calafate. Transfer to El Chalten, and then arrive at your 4* Hosteria El Puma hotel. Check in to the hotel and relax before enjoying dinner in the hotel restaurant, included in your stay. Enjoy views of Monte Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Guest rooms in this comfortable lodge have exposed wood beams and brickwork.
Day 2 Trekking to Laguna de los Tres
Have breakfast in the hotel, and then head out for a full day tour including trekking to Laguna de los Tres. Take a few hours drive to the Poincenot trailhead,
and then prepare for the 2 hour trek to the lagoon. Cross the Rio Blanco and follow an old glacier moraine until you reach the remarkable views of the Laguna de los Tres and the adjacent glacier. There are also amazing views of Monte Fitz Roy and its granite spires. Have a box lunch picnic while absorbing views of this spectacular sight. Continue walking to the Lagoon Sucia, a crystal clear glacier lake with mountains all around. Make your way back to the Poincenot trailhead and camp site, then continue back to El Chalten. Relax in the hotel and spend the evening at your leisure.
Day 3 Estancia Helsingfors
Located just south of the Viedma Lake, the Estancia Helsingfors is a cozy lodge in the midst of a breathtaking Patagonia landscape. From the lodge, there are views of Monte Fitz Roy and the Andes Mountains. Each quaint guest room has a private bathroom - some with Jacuzzi tubs and Scottish showers - and views of the surrounding hills. The lounge room has an oversized stone fireplace, beckoning travelers to rest and relax. Activities include fishing, river rafting, hiking, boat cruise, or ice trekking on the Viedma Glacier and Cerro Torre.
Day 4 Estancia Helsingfors
Another free day at Estancia Helsingfors, with opportunities for more outdoor activities such as trekking, river rafting, trout fishing, or horseback riding through Los Glaciares National Park. An optional boat cruise to the Viedma Glacier is highly recommended: you get to take a Zodiac boat to Lake Viedma, passing the largest colony of huemels (endangered small deer), the Amphiteater Waterfall, and of course the Viedma Glacier itself -- the largest glacier in Los Glaciares National Park. Listen to the silence and admire the beauty of the blue glacier as the Zodiak skims the lake.
Day 5 Estancia Nibepo Aike
After breakfast in Estancia Helsingfors, transfer to another estancia in the El Calafate region, the 4* Estancia Nibepo Aike. This estancia is located on the southern edge of Lago Argentino, and it is a working cattle ranch. Here visitors can see how the gauchos of traditional Patagonia herd cattle and work the land. The lodge has rustic, Patagonian decor, exposed wood beams, and an organic orchard and garden. Activities include guided hikes, climbing, fishing on Lago Roca, sheep shearing shows, and more. All meals are included at the estancia.
Day 6 Los Glaciares National Park Tour
Have breakfast at the estancia and then take a tour of Los Glaciares National Park. The Glacier Perito Moreno is a must-see, since it is the largest advancing glacier. Visitors can often see chunks of ice break off from the glacial wall and crash into Lago Argentino below. There are 46 other glaciers in the national park, including the Upsala and Spegazzini Glaciers. Another impressive sight are the peaks of Monte Fitz Roy (3405m) and Cerro Torre (3102m). Pass through lenga and ñires forests, looking for guanacos, cougars, Andean gray foxes, and condors. Return to the estancia after a day of sightseeing.
Day 7 Depart from El Calafate
After breakfast, transfer from the estancia to the airport in El Calafate for your flight home or to your next destination.
