Brazil Tourist Visas Info

Brazil Tourist Visas Info

Tourist visas are required for entry into Brazil for citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, and several other countries. Citizens of the UK, most of Europe, New Zealand, South Africa, and many Latin American countries are exempt. To find out if your nationality requires a Brazil visa, go to http://www.projectvisa.com. View the Brazilian Consulate website for up-to-date info & prices The application process for obtaining a Brazil tourist visa is lengthy; it can take several weeks or even a couple months. You can go in person to the nearest Brazilian consulate, or mail in your application (including your passport) to a visa processing agency or to the nearest Brazilian consulate or embassy. For US citizens and Canadians, we recommend Pinnacle Travel Document Systems. They can oftentimes expedite the process and get you your visa within 1 week. Make sure to mention our company name, SouthAmerica.travel, when you talk with them!

In order to obtain a Brazil tourist visa, you will need:

  • your passport, valid for at least 6 months after your travel dates
  • the completed official visa application form from the Brazilian consulate
  • a copy of your flight itinerary in and out of Brazil
  • proof of vaccination for yellow fever, if traveling from certain countries (see health section below)
  • if traveling with a minor, the minor will also need to show his birth certificate and notarized travel authorization to issue a visa to a minor
  • any other documentation that may be pertinent to your Brazil travel plans
  • payment by USPS money order, made out to the Consulate General of Brazil, with the name of the applicant on the order. (Cash, checks of any kind, bank or personal money orders, and credit card charges ARE NOT accepted!)

Note about traveling to the Iguassu Falls:The Iguassu Falls lies on the border between Brazil and Argentina, and the border with Paraguay is very close by. If you want to enter Brazil to explore the area around the Iguassu Falls (even just for a day trip), you will need to obtain a Brazil tourist visa, which can take several weeks or a few months.
