October 15 Arrive today in Iguassu Falls. These rumbling waterfalls straddle the border between Argentina and Brazil, close to the border with Paraguay. The Iguassu Waterfalls are classified as one of the largest waterfalls in the world, in terms of pure magnitude. And surrounded by the lush Misiones forest, the Iguassu Falls and its adjacent national parks are a wonderful place to visit and explore. Upon arrival at the airport, your Iguassu Falls tour guide will greet you and take you to the fabulous 5 star Hotel Mercure Internacional Foz. Feast on a Brazilian dinner included tonight and relax at your hotel, perhaps going for a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.
October 16 Today's full day excursion shows you the Iguassu Falls from both Argentina and Brazil. First, cross into Argentina for a walk above the falls, wider and more powerful than Niagara. A boat guides you to an island to get a close-up view of the Falls from below, if you choose to take the Gran Adventura boat cruise. The mist of the Falls engulfs you on the Brazilian side, as you walk out onto a platform to view the most impressive part of the Falls, called the garganta do diabo or 'Devil's Throat.'
October 17 After breakfast we take off for the hillside town of Blumenau, the heart of German colonization of the 19th century. Black Forest cakes and architecture and German culture are still alive and thriving in this part of Brazil. Each October, as spring arrives, the residents of Blumenau bring out their best kegs of beer, and dust off their liederhosen, preparing to get into the sprit of Oktoberfest. Known as one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich, the Blumenau Oktoberfest celebration is a must-see for German culture and beer enthusiasts. After tonight's German-style dinner, stay in the 4 star Hotel Plaza Blumenau, the very best in town!
October 18
Today is the day for the Oktoberfest parade! Your Blumenau tour guide will show you around this historic town, explaining the origin of the Oktoberfest here. As of 1880, this region was still frontier land, until a wave of German and Austrian immigrants braved the hills and pioneers the area. Spend the afternoon enjoying the parade, which often features musicians from Munich, children's dances, and more. Read more on our blog post: Oktoberfest South America Beer Bratwurst & Ballards.
October 19 After a leisurely breakfast, head through the rolling landscape of the Atlantic Rainforest, past farmland, subtropical forest, and Araucária trees, to Curitiba. Named the best-organized city in South America, Curitiba is now a model of city planning for many Western industrialized nations. Although the city has grown exponentially over the year, welcoming many different cultures such as Dutch, Polish, Arabian, German, Ukrainian, Italian, and Japanese immigrants, Curitiba has been able to manage its tremendous growth with excellent city planning and innovative ideas. Check in to the 4 star Hotel Pestana Curitiba. Tonight's included dinner will give you a taste of the region's mix of cultures.
October 20 Take a city tour of Curitiba, including a visit to the Glass Opera House, and then down to the coast for a stroll along the historic promenade of the Port of Antonina. After lunch, board the scenic historic railway as it winds its way from sea level up 1200m (3/4 of a mile high!) through the Atlantic Rainforest mountains back to Curitiba.
October 21
Head for São Paulo, the world's second largest city & South America's industrial powerhouse. Head downtown, where skyscrapers dominate the skyline. A city tour includes sightseeing of the Teatro Municipal, the Basilica, and the Contemporary Art Museum. São Paulo's 4 star Hotel Blue Tree Paulista São Paulo is located in the heart of the city. Tonight's dinner is included.
October 22 At last, you'll arrive in the cidade maravilhosa, the "Marvelous City" of Rio de Janeiro. Your Brazil guide will greet you and take you to your beachfront hotel on Copacabana Beach, the 4 star Astoria Palace Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy the afternoon on the world's most famous beach, or go for a swim on the rooftop pool. In the evening, you'll be treated to a complimentary caipirinha cocktail as well as a rodizio, an all-you-can-eat Brazilian barbeque dinner.
October 23 Enjoy a Rio de Janeiro tour today, starting with a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain. Sugarloaf offers a panoramic view of Guanabara Bay, the city itself, and its gorgeous coastline. In the afternoon, you'll have free time to explore the city or hit the beach.
October 24 Finish your incredible Brazil & Argentina Oktoberfest tour with another half-day sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro. Take the tremzinho cogwheel railway to the top of Corcovado Mountain, where the Christ the Redeemer statue stands with arms outstretched over the city. Take in a last look at Rio de Janeiro from one of the most iconic panoramic vistas in the world. In the afternoon or evening, your guide will escort you to the airport for your flight home.
