The scenic drive through the Los Glaciares National Park passes through beautiful forests and lakes, and allows you to see the glacier from multiple angles. Then get up close and explore the glacier along the Rico branch of Lago Argentino. This glacier is famous for its chunks of ice breaking off and crashing into the lake. Once the ice makes contact with the lake, the warmer temperature of the water triggers a process called calving, which results in the dramatic breaking off of ice. You can also walk around the marked walkways to view the glacier. Return to El Calafate in the late afternoon.
