Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park was created in 1926 and the oldest National Park in Chile. It has a surface area of 251.000 ha / 620.235 acres and is situated in one of the most privileged zones in the country. Its principle attractions are its volcanoes and mountains, great forests of native trees, and one of the most beautiful lakes of Southern Chile: the emerald colored Todos Los Santos Lake.
Day 1: Puerto Montt – Hiking the Colonist Trail - Petrohué.
Your guide will await you at the airport of Puerto Montt to take you on a scenic trip along one of the biggest lakes in South America to the Vicente PŁrez Rosales National Park. On our way we will make a stop in Puerto Varas, a small and pleasant city on the shores of the lake Llanquihue with fantastic views of the volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco. You will briefly explore the center and learn about local architecture before driving on to
Ensenada. A few kilometers behind this town we will begin our ascent to the Osorno Volcano and the hiking trail, which was established by the first colonists who explored this area in the 1850s. We will go on an easy hike, first through thick native rainforest that, after a while, opens up to lava fields on the slopes of the Osorno. On a clear day you will have impressive views of the Lake Todos Los Santos and Llanquihue. We will have time for a picnic lunch and then slowly descend to arrive at the road that leads us directly to your hotel in PetrohuŁ. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Petrohué.
Day 2: Rafting on the PetrohuŁ River & Kayaking on the Lake Todos Los Santos
After breakfast we will drive to the waterfalls of PetrohuŁ, beautifully set on the foot of the Osorno Volcano. Take your time to absorb the impressive natural settings on a short hike to the PetrohuŁ water falls. After the rather relaxed walk, get ready for an adrenaline rush during an unique whitewater rafting trip on the PetrohuŁ River. For the next two hours you will raft the rapids of this safe but exciting river. Relax and enjoy a
rewarding snack afterwards before heading back to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will walk to Lake Todos los Santos and sail out on a kayak trip along the shores of this lake. On a clear day you will have great views of volcanoes like the Tronador and Puntiagudo; on the way we will make a stop at one of the lonely beaches to swim. In the early evening we will return to the hotel for dinner. Overnight at Hotel PetrohuŁ.
Day 3: Hiking the Osorno Volcano
After breakfast, we will start our pleasant hike up the slopes of the Osorno Volcano (2.661 m / 8.730 ft) to a pass between the volcano and La Picada Peak (1.710 m / 5.610 ft). On the first part of our trail we will cross wide lava fields, after which the vegetation thickens until we hike through native Valdivian rainforest. The flora will change significantly. During the whole hike you will be able to enjoy breath-taking panoramic views of Lake Todos los Santos and the surrounding volcanoes, including the immense Tronador Volcano (3.490 m / 11.450 ft). Upon arrival at La Picada Pass, you will be able to enjoy a picnic. More than 400 years ago, Jesuits who discovered the trail and reached the pass, saw the beautiful lake for the first time on the 1st of November, which is why they named it “All Saints Lake”. After our picnic we will start our descent to the shores of the lake; passing thick native forests and a huge dried river bed until reaching the emerald colored lake Todos Los Santos. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake before you head back to your hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Hotel
Day 4: PetrohuŁ – Angelm – Puerto Montt
After breakfast we will drive to the city of Puerto Montt to visit the famous market Angelm—. It is one of the most folkloric and interesting markets in southern Chile, especially in the morning when most people go shopping here to buy fresh fish and other foods. Your guide will introduce you to different kinds of exotic fish and shellfish and then take you to the airport of Puerto Montt for your connecting flight.
