Best Time to Travel to Ecuador

For travelers headed to the coast of Ecuador, take note that the dry season from late May to November is unbearably cool, and the sky remains a gloomy overcast. From January to April is the best time to visit. During these months, the weather is much warmer with sun-kissed mornings and a few rain showers in the afternoon.

Fortunately, the wildlife in the Galapagos Islands is visible during any time of the year. But if you’re looking for particular species and activities, such as baby sea lions being born, there are specific times of the year when that occurs. The Galapagos has the best weather for boating from December to May. During this period you can expect the warmest weather, calm seas, and plenty of visible wildlife. Boating, snorkeling, and swimming are common activities during this time of the year.

On vacation, we tend to try to avoid rain and look for the sun. However, in the Amazon, it rains year-round. Without frequent rain showers, the abundance of bright greenery and exotic animal species would not be present. So just remember that while it may be raining, you will also be in the midst of an authentic Amazon experience. Nonetheless, if you are traveling in the months between December to March, you may experience some slightly drier weather.

The peak season for travel in Ecuador is from June to August and September to late December. If you are planning a trip to Ecuador during this time, make sure to book well in advance! However, if you avoid these months, you might be able to encounter lower prices and fewer crowds.
