Arrive in Guayaquil & City Tour

Day 1

Arrive at the airport in Guayaquil, and meet your guide who will take you to your hotel. Check in, rest, and then go out on a half-day city tour of Guayaquil. Visit the 19th-century neighborhood of Las Peñas, the boardwalk of Malecón 2000, La Rotonda monument and the archaeological museum of the Central Bank.

Train Ride from Durán - Bucay

Day 2

After breakfast in Guayaquil, your guide will take you to Durán, where you'll board a steam locomotive to being your railway journey on the G&Q Line. Have lunch at a ranch on the coast, the San Rafael hacienda, and also visit a Shuar community, a unique group of people who orginally lived in the Ecuadorian Amazon but migrated to the coastal plains near Guayaquil. Continue on and check in to a lodge, where you'll have dinner and relax.

Train Ride from Bucay - Riobamba

Day 3

Enjoy remarkable scenery as the train leaves the coast and enters the Andes Mountain range. Cross vertiginous heights and swervy switchbacks along the Devil's Nose route, which is one of Ecuador's most impressive railroad routes. Then have lunch and shop at the town of Guamote. Next, visit a 500-year-old church, and then continue on by train to Riobamba, where you'll check into a hacienda, have dinner, and spend the night.

Day 4

The first stop along the railroad today is at Urbina, where you can get out and see the Interpretation Center of the Ice Men. There are several skeletons and artifacts here that were preserved by glaciers. Then have lunch and visit a rose plantation in Cunchibamba. The rose plantation adheres to fair-trade practices, and you can learn about how Ecuador has become a major exporter of roses. Spend the night at a hacienda nearby, and enjoy dinner and a traditional folk dance show.

Train Ride from Latacunga - Quito

Day 5

After breakfast at the hacienda, board the train again for a final day of railroad traveling. Stop at the Cotopaxi National Park, to hike, spot wildlife, and admire the Cotopaxi volcano - an active strato-volcano and one of the tallest in the world. Lunch at the San Agustin del Callo Hacienda, and then continue on board to the Quito railway station. Once there, your guide will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in Quito.

Quito Colonial City Tour & Middle of the World

Day 6

This morning, after breakfast in your hotel, meet your guide for a tour of Quito's colonial district, as well as an excursion to the Middle of the World complex. See bustling streets and squares of the largest historical old town in the Americas, a multi-ethnic, artistic and cultural heritage destination. Visit the "Middle of the World" monument, situated at 0º0'0" latitude. At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to your hotel. In the evening, you're free to roam about Quito on your own.

Day 7

After breakfast at the hotel, your driver will pick you up and take you to the Quito international airport for your flight home, or to your next destination in South America.
