Paraguay Money, Budgeting & Tips

Paraguay Money, Budgeting & Tips

The currency is the Guaraní, symbolized with the ? sign.

Expect prices that are much lower than in North America or Europe; expect to pay about half what you would in your home country. There are many banks, money exchangers, and ATM machines in downtown Asunción and major cities. We recommend that you keep a small amount of cash in the local currency with you for purchases like souvenirs or meals at small local restaurants. Otherwise, you can use debit or credit cards. Inform your bank in advance that you will be traveling to Paraguay, and inquire about ATM fees and credit card transaction fees.

For souvenirs, you may want to budget for silver filigree, cotton lace, ñanduti embroidery, leather goods, clay ceramics, or handmade leather soccer balls.
