Then come to the Refugio Amazonas, a 32-bedroom Amazon lodge within a 4-hour boatride of Puerto Maldonado. This Peru jungle lodge is perfect for kids, families, and adults. Situated in the Tambopata National Reserve, the lodge is both a destination for nature lovers, and an eco-friendly venture that helps support families in the area.
There are 32 rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, and bright, open floor-plans. Rooms are outfitted with mosquito netting over the beds, kerosene lamps, candles, and a safe-deposit box. The bungalows are connected with boardwalks, as is the dining room and loft, where Internet access is available. Superior rooms have hypoallergenic pillows, hammocks, reading tables, electricity until 10 PM, and free Internet access.
There is even a nature trail designed for children, plus a playground. For adults, the wellness center is a great option. Everyone will enjoy the 25-meter canopy tower where you can spot toucans, parrots, macaws, and a variety of other wildlife. All meals are served at the lodge, and consist of soup or appetizers, salad, an entree, and deserts. Filtered water, coffee, tea, and fruit juice are also available.
