Cape Horn National Park & Wulaia Bay

Day 4

Early in the morning, the Stella Australis crosses Nassau Bay and enters the remote Cape Horn National Park. Discovered in 1616, Cape Horn is a sheer 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory overlooking the Drake Passage. For some time, it was the only navigation route between the Pacific and Atlantic, and was nicknamed the "End of the Earth." In 2005, the park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The Chilean Navy still maintains a permanent lighthouse on the island, along with a tiny Stella Maris Chapel, and Cape Horn Monument.

After Cape Horn, you will sail back across Nassau Bay, and the ship will anchor in fabled Wulaia Bay. This area is renowned for its captivating beauty and striking geography. Disembark from the ship and visit the museum in the old radio station. You will have a choice of three hikes (ranging in difficulty) that ascend the heavily wooded mountain behind the bay. On all three walks, you stroll through an enchanted Magellanic forest of lengas, coigües, canelos and ferns, towards scenic viewpoints overlooking the bay.
