Internet access for Argentina
Internet Access & Telephones
Traveling always seems much simpler when there is access to wifi, especially in a foreign country, where you might not have an international telephone plan. Luckily for you, it won’t be difficult to find wifi in Argentina. The majority of the hotels we work with offer Internet access and international telephone dialing. Although for calling home, you'll get better rates by using an Internet-based phone service such as Skype, or WhatsApp.
Argentina is a huge city, and Internet cafes seem to be just about everywhere. Internet cafes in major cities - and even in small towns - are easy to find. Just ask for the "cafe de Internet." There are also lots of wifi hotspots in the main cities. And when in doubt, just head to a nearby Starbucks, where there is always free wifi.
If you bring your smartphone, remember to put it on airplane mode to avoid roaming charges, and then enable wifi to access the Internet. From there, you can download different apps that allow you to call home. Some of the popular traveling apps are WhatsApp, Viber, and Skype. Any of these will work for any time you need to call home or even a friend that’s in the area.
Helpful Tip: If you’re determined not to become lost in the city, here’s a helpful tip. For iPhone carriers that don’t have an international phone plan, you can still use your “Maps” app. Simply open the app when you’re in your hotel room, using the wifi. Then without exiting the app, close your phone screen. As you head out to explore the city, you can re-open your screen, and your Maps app will still work, without using any data or wifi. Consider this the magic that will keep you on the yellow brick road.
