Staying Healthy in Ecuador

Altitude sickness: To prevent this, avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol on your first couple days there, and drink plenty of water.

In tropical parts of Ecuador, especially the Amazon (in the east), malaria, dengue fever, and yellow fever are present. Prevent infection by bringing 100% DEET mosquito repellent and wearing long-sleeve clothing.

We recommend that if you are heading for the Amazon on our Ecuador Rainforest Tours that you get prophylactic Malaria medication. Consult your doctor or the World Health Association website about vaccinations and other travel-related medical recommendations. Please note that our travel consultants cannot give medical advice. Also note that medical assistance in the Galapagos Islands is very limited.
