24 Hours In Lima Peru | Lima Travel Guide

Updated: April 11, 2018 Lima has come into its own over the last few years, once thought of as only an airport layover for a trip to Machu Picchu and Cuzco, Lima is now a culinary capital of the world, a revitalized city, and a tourist destination in and of itself.  If you only have a day, follow our Lima Travel Guide to see the highlights of this beautiful capital city. So let’s cover your 24 Hour Itinerary and Lima Travel Guide for your quick trip to Peru!

First up in any Lima Travel Guide should be seeing the changing of the guard! Head to Plaza Mayor at 11:45 am ( Monday – Saturday) to see the changing of the guard ceremony along with a brass band performance, an entertaining spectacle to see!  After, grab a bite to eat or a coffee at Plaza Mayor.

Lima is famous for parks, food, and cathedrals, but you should also include the broad array of museums to your list of things to do in Lima. The three most famous are The National Museum of Archaeology, Larco Museum, and The Gold Museum.  These are my favorite museums for exploring the history of the local indigenous cultures!

Parque Kennedy is a must-see on any Lima Travel Guide. Centrally located and offers a great starting point to explore Lima, from here you can visit the streets of Miraflores where you will find trendy upscale shops. Stroll along the Malecon for a beautiful view of the coastline. For the more adventurous types, sign up to go paragliding and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city and surrounding coast!

Lima-City-TourCulinary Tour

Lima is the culinary capital of South America, and I highly recommend taking a culinary tour. The culinary tours depart for lunch or dinner and give you an excellent overview of Peruvian restaurants and markets. You can even try making ceviche; a delicious local dish made with seasoned raw fish. Sip on a tangy pisco sour, Peru’s most famous drink and enjoy some good food.

When night falls head to Parque de la Reserva to see the beautiful water fountain display, with 12 fountains that dance to music, it has been named the largest water fountain park in the world. Colored lights accent the flow of the water as the park transforms into a beautiful wonderland. Parque de la Reserva is a must in any Lima Travel Guide!
