3 Unique Chile Patagonia Tours and Cruises

Chile Patagonia Tours Torres del Paine

Visit one of the most unique places in South America with our Chile Patagonia Tours. This vast and unique area is full of beautiful landscapes and a variety of endemic wildlife. In the last decades, in part because of the growing popularity of destinations such as Torres del Paine National Park, Chilean Patagonia has become one of the most popular places to visit in South America. Chile Patagonia tours should be on the must-see list for any traveler, from the adventurous backpacker to the young-at-heart looking to experience Chilean Patagonia in luxury and comfort. Let’s explore Patagonia including tours to Cape Horn, Perito Moreno Glacier, and the world-famous El Chalten.

Patagonia Tours Chile

#1: Torres del Paine National Park

Chile Patagonia ToursOne of our main recommendations in your visit to Chilean Patagonia is the National Park Torres del Paine, a huge protected area near the border in between Argentina and Chile that was declared a natural heritage site by UNESCO. This magnificent place is full of breathtaking lakes with unbelievable colors, surrounded by snow-capped peaks that make every picture you take a postcard-ready – there’s no chance of a bad photo here in Chilean Patagonia! This National Park also home of numerous species of animals only found in Chilean Patagonia, such as the guanaco (a relative of the llama), the puma (mountain lion), the Andean grey fox, the Andean condor, the huemul (South American deer), and more. Chile Patagonia ToursTake the popular 5 days Torres del Paine hiking tour along the “W” route, or take a Chile Patagonia tour and cruise that departs from Santiago, includes Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, and Torres del Paine, finishing with a 5-day cruise to Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, Puerto Madryn, and Buenos Aires. Puerto Natales is the portal for reaching Torres del Paine. It’s reachable by bus or cruise boat. A complete Torres del Paine tour package includes a guide through the park, all transfers to/from the park, hotel nights in Puerto Natales, several lunches and dinners, a cruise of Lake Grey, and the River Serrano, and a cruise from Mt Balmaceda to Puerto Natales.

#2: Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas Chile Patagonia Tours

When talking about our Chile Patagonia tours, is also important to mention the main city in Patagonia, Punta Arenas, located three hours away from Puerto Natales by land. Punta Arenas is the largest settlement on the Strait of Magellan and is the capital of Chile’s Magallanes and Antarctica Region. You can easily get there on one of the daily flights from Santiago de Chile, and from there take the bus to Puerto Natales. A really fun activity in Punta Arenas is to take a day trip to a pinguinera, or penguin colony. From October to April, hop aboard a boat for a 2-hour ride, and soon you’ll be traipsing along with the home of thousands of penguins. You must stay on the walking paths of along the island, but penguins ignore the paths and will practically step on your feet as they waddle by. Several of our Patagonia Cruises include Punta Arenas on their routes.

#3: Carretera Austral

Chile Patagonia Tours Another fantastic trip through Chilean Patagonia is along the Carretera Austral, or “Southern Highway.” Similar in popularity to Route 66 in the USA, or the Ruta 40 in Argentina, this iconic and scenic highway is a great way to travel through Patagonia. Starting in Bariloche, the heart of the Lake District, this Chile Patagonia tour winds its way through Llao Llao and other scenic alpine lakes and towns until reaching Puerto Varas in Chile. Pass by the stunning volcano of Osorno and Mt Tronador, then take a cruise from Puerto Montt to Chiloe Island. This island is full of legendary stories and fishermen more than eager to tell tall tales to unsuspecting travelers. The Carretera Austral tour continues south to the Los Glaciares National Park and finishes in El Calafate. Insider’s Tip: Make sure not to leave Patagonia without trying the local meat (lamb), which can be easily found in any typical restaurant. We are sure you will love it!
