The Amazon Rainforest is the most biodiverse area of tropical rainforest in the world. Spread across 9 countries including Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, the Amazon Rainforest is home to what we at SouthAmerica.travel consider among our favorite ecological destinations worldwide. Housed in this dense jungle are some of the world’s most breathtaking eco-lodges, eco-resorts, and Posadas. Today, we will share a few of our favorites with you. Starting with….
In the Peruvian Amazon lies one of our favorite and highest recommended eco-lodges, the Refugio Amazonas Lodge. This 32 room lodge, located a few hours drive from the airport in Puerto Maldonado, is the perfect choice for any type of traveler. With an absolutely breathtaking 25-meter tall canopy tower overlooking the endless jungle, as well as stunning luxury rooms designed to soak in the sights and sounds of the surrounding rainforest, this remote eco-lodge deep in the Amazon Rainforest is truly something special. Set on a 200-acre bio-reserve in a protected area of the rainforest, Refugio Amazonas Lodge is situated to provide endless side excursions from a catamaran boat out on nearby Lake Condenado to a visit to Tambopata Research Center, a conservation center and bird lover’s paradise focused on rehabilitation, breeding, and research on macaws and other bird species. This quintessential Peru eco-lodge awaits.
One of the world’s top luxury eco-lodges, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is located in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, right next to stunning Tambopata National Park. Since 1975, this center has played host to scientific research that promotes conservation and preservation of the Amazon, while also serving as an absolutely amazing eco-lodge for luxury travelers and nature lovers alike. The facilities at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica are classic in design and blend in effortlessly with the surrounding landscape of the dense jungle. With boundless animal life, you will surely be able to spot toucans, parrots, tapirs, macaws, and monkeys right from the comfort of your very own jungle lodge room. Spend your days on guided treks and excursions through the jungle canopy, along the banks of Lake Sandoval, or visit the nearby Ese Eja People, a local Amazonian tribe of indigenous peoples. Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is a place not to be missed on your journey to the Amazon.
Posada Amazonas Eco-Lodge
Another one of our favorite eco-lodges, Posada Amazonas is a truly stunning lodge with an even more spectacular location. A little closer than the other two resorts to the airport in Puerto Maldonado, which serves as a gateway to the Amazon, this lodge offers all the amenities you would expect from a 5-star eco-lodge and more. Similarly to the other lodges, Posada Amazonas features a 30-meter tall tree canopy, a local ethnobotanical center you can visit, and boundless side excursions to local lakes, rivers, farms, and communities. But that is not what we love most about this eco-lodge. What we love most is that it is locally-owned by the native indigenous Ese-Eja tribe of Infierno. That makes this eco-lodge something truly special and allows you to feel a special connection to the land and people in that with your stay, you are giving back to the earth and eco-system that has been these peoples home for thousands of years. Perhaps it is for all these reasons mentioned above that we have written about this Amazon Rainforest eco-lodge previously. What could be better than that?
Finally, last but certainly not least is the Uakari Lodge. The Uakari Lodge is a floating eco-lodge community located deep in the heart of the State of Amazonas in Central Brazil. Little needs to be said about this lodge that is not easily seen in photographs, but this place is absolutely spectacular. Here at SouthAmerica.travel, we would argue there are few places like this left in the world and it is for that reason when guests are looking for only the best in luxury destination travel to the Amazon on a 5-star level, this is the place to go. This eco-lodge has been featured by the likes of National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and others as one of the top hotels and lodges not just in Brazil or South America, but in the Amazon as a whole, and we couldn’t agree more. As South American travel experts with a close relationship to this one of a kind eco-lodge, we have only heard rave reviews from guests (among stories of jaguar sightings and some of the best sunsets ever seen). So whether you are just dreaming about something this nice or would like to book a stay here, we all can safely add Uakari Lodge to our bucket list of luxury travel destinations worldwide.
Whether a 4-star, conveniently located eco-lodge is your thing or whether you want a taste of one of the best 5-star eco-lodges in the entire world, consider a trip to the Amazon as your next luxury travel destination.
