An Insider’s Guide to a Buenos Aires Argentina Tour in 24 Hours

Updated: April 11, 2018 Buenos Aires Argentina Tours This blog post was written by Izabela Zielińska, one of our Travel Consultants, a Buenos Aires Argentina Tour expert who spills her secrets into getting the most out of Buenos Aires in just 24 hours.

If you have only one day to spend in Buenos Aires, here’s a plan for making the most of your Buenos Aires Argentina tour. The plan is simple. In 24 Hours in Buenos Aires, you will use every moment from dawn to dusk so you can leave the city with sounds of tango in your head, the taste of asado in your mouth and souvenirs from colorful markets of bohemian San Telmo in your bag.

Before Sunrise

Buenos Aires Argentina ToursTake a morning walk along the Rio La Plata and enjoy breakfast at a cozy cafe in the Puerto Madero district – known as the “youngest” part of the city. Here ships come and go, leaving the city for the Atlantic or returning home. From the modernist Puente de la Mujer bridge to the old ship Fragata Sarmiento and white seagulls against the background of glass skyscrapers, Puerto Madero is one of the most photogenic parts of Buenos Aires. Let a driver take you next to the neighborhood of colorful metal houses, La Boca, the oldest barrio of Buenos Aires where Italian and Spanish immigrants’ stories begin. La Boca is just a pure paradise for photographers. All along the main street called Caminito, you’ll find Diego Maradona lookalikes. This famous football player’s career developed right here in this simple yet charismatic neighborhood.

The balcony of the Casa Rosada is where Evita Peron, the famous Argentine, talked to her beloved nation. The Casa Rosada is on the widest street in the world, 9 de Julio Avenue, which also houses the giant Obelisk monument. After the brief history lesson, it’s time to get familiar with the architecture of this one of the most European cities in South America. Often named as the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires is proud of its sophisticated Recoleta district with French-style classic architecture, boutique hotels and mansions, petite restaurants and exclusive shops. Once your appetite for fashion and shopping is satisfied, don’t hesitate to visit Cementerio de la Recoleta, the world-famous cemetery where you’ll find Evita Peron’s grave, as well as impressive works of art such as statues and sarcophagi built for elite poreños, citizens of Buenos Aires. Here the first day in Buenos Aires slowly finishes and the first night begins.

After Sunset

closed door restaurants buenos airesWhen a working day is over the downtown of Buenos Aires gets empty. Many poreños gather in bustling, vibrant barrio of Palermo to dine with family and friends. The number and variety of bars, clubs and restaurants in Palermo Viejo and Palermo Hollywood surprises, and for a first-timer, it’s obligatory to pick one that serves local food. Typical Argentine beef steak or meat empanadas never disappoint. The smell of grilled asado is the best way to find a great Buenos Aires restaurant. Make sure also to taste some Malbec red wine delivered from the world-famous bodegas in Mendoza. And indulge in dulce de leche ice-cream, one of the best Argentine inventions. And if feeding the body why not also feed the soul? Finish off your la noche porteña watching a tango show performed by professional Tango dancers. Who knows, maybe you will end the night dancing a milonga on the dance floor? As the night dies down, you can rest knowing you’ve experienced the highlights of a Buenos Aires Argentina tour, but there’s always so much more to see and do. You’ll surely feel the tug of Buenos Aires calling you back for more.
