The Best Chile Beach Towns

Come along with us as we explore The Best Chile Beach Towns. Chile is a country of unexpected natural beauty and extreme contrasts. It is bordered by the driest desert in the world to the north, the snow-capped Andes to the east, and the glaciers and jagged peaks of Patagonia stretch south to the end of the world. The west coast of Chile has 3,000 miles of Pacific coastline (roughly the length of Norway to Nigeria), so it’s no surprise that it has some of the most diverse beaches in the world. In this one skinny country on the very edge of the continent, you can find white sand and calm, crystal clear turquoise waters to rough black-sand beaches and huge waves perfect for surfing.

Easter Island is a Best Beach Town in Chile

First up on our list of The Best Chile Beach Towns is the mysterious Easter Island, one of the most remote islands in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is actually a territory of Chile. Most of the coastline of this South Pacific island is rocky, but there are a couple powdery white sand beaches with bright blue water. Surrounded by a palm tree forest, Anakena Beach is also an important archaeological site. A line of the famous Moai statues along the sand peers out into the expanse of ocean beyond. beaches-in-chile

The Central Coast is a Best Beach Town in Chile

The central coast of Chile is made up of miles upon miles of beach town after beach town, and most are just a couple hours drive from Santiago.

Viña del Mar

Just north of the colorful UNESCO port city of Valparaiso is perhaps the most popular resort town for Santiaginos to escape during the summer. The wide beaches are perfect for relaxing, or you can stroll the boardwalk filled with vendors. beaches-in-chile

Zapallar

North of Viña are the beaches in Zapallar, a quiet, upscale resort town backed by towering cliffs and green hills, and Maitencillo, famous for its windsurfing and paragliding. In the tiny fishing village of Papudo, you can enjoy some of the freshest seafood in Chile before hiking through a cypress tree forest along narrow pathways that wind up and down cliffs filled with wildflowers and onto small, secluded beaches. beaches-in-chile

La Serena

La Serena, a colonial town about 250 miles north of Valparaiso, is one of the oldest cities in Chile and is now a laidback beach town famous for its churches and cobblestone streets. It also has fantastic nightlife and surfing, and it’s a great jumping off point for visiting Isla Damas, where you can take a boat to a Humboldt penguin reserve and go snorkeling.

Pichilemu & Punta de Lobos

A couple hour drive south from Valparaiso brings you to Pichilemu and Punta de Lobos, whose black sand beaches are famous for hosting international surfing competitions.

The Atacama Desert is a Best Beach Town in Chile

The highest and driest desert in the world runs right up to the Pacific Ocean, and its beaches like Bahia Inglesa or Pan de Azucar National Park are perfect to visit year-round since they consistently have a mild climate and warmer water than the beaches along the central coast. beaches-in-chile

The Lakes Region is a Best Beach Town in Chile

The dark sand lakeside beaches of towns like Pucón and Puerto Varas have views of snow-capped volcanoes surrounded by lush green landscapes. These lakes are fantastic for kayaking or other water sports too. beaches-in-chile Whichever part of Chile you visit, you are never too far from a unique beach with surreal landscapes, each one different than the next.  Let us plan the perfect tour throughout Chile and South America.
