You want to go to the Amazon, but you’re not quite sure where to begin to plan or what type of vessel you want to go on, we at SouthAmerica.travel are here to help you find the perfect Luxury Amazon Cruise.
The Amazon River
First, some interesting facts about this amazing river. The Amazon River is the second-longest river in the world. It is approximately 6400 kilometers (4000 miles) inland and runs through Guyana, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. There are over 3,000 known species of fish that live in the river and more are being discovered each year. If you are an avid birder – you will be happy to know that 20% of the world’s bird species live in the Amazon Rainforest. There are also 40,000 plant species found here as well as 2 ½ million insect species. These numbers are extraordinary and would be excited to plan a trip to see some of them! Now that we’ve got you even more intrigued about the Amazon, let us plan your amazing voyage down the mighty Amazon River in luxury. There are two great vessels that we offer and I would like to discuss each of them.
The first vessel we recommend is the M/Y Tucano. This vessel has more of an intimate feel. It is 80 feet long and has only 9 cabins aboard. Although the ship is smaller than your typical cruise ships, it has a lot of character. The Tucano has a spacious observation deck with a large sun canopy where you can spot wildlife while cruising along the river. Or if you prefer to catch some rays, you can do so here as well. Lie under the South America sun and watch for macaw parrots flying overhead. All cabins onboard the Tucano are air-conditioned and have windows that can be opened (all equipped with insect screens). It’s the perfect place to relax after your early morning excursion listening to sounds and sights of the jungle and the water lapping against the vessel as you cruise down the river. Truly breathtaking!
Dining onboard the vessel is casual. The chef on board makes amazing dishes for the guests making sure to utilize the wonderful fruits, vegetables, fish, and other flavors unique to the Amazon. >> View more information about this luxury Amazon Cruise.
Iberostar Grand Amazon
The second vessel we recommend is the Iberostar Grand Amazon. This ship is larger and considered more of a “Hotel Cruise Ship”. The Grand Amazon has all the modern conveniences you would find in a hotel or other larger cruise ships. It has exclusive bars and restaurants and a large range of entertainment activities, a conference room for conventions, shops and disco. This vessel has a large swimming pool and Jacuzzi located on the top deck. The Grand Amazon has 72 cabins. All are air-conditioned and all have private balconies. Perfect to sit and sip a nice glass of wine and watch the sunset and listen to the myriad of birds and monkeys that live in the jungle as you cruise down the river.
The Grand Amazon also has fine dining onboard that of Brazilian and international nature. The chefs also make use of fresh fruits and vegetables and featuring outstanding local fish from the Amazon, along with excellent lamb, pork, and beef. >> View more information about this luxury Amazon Cruise.
Both vessels carry small boats for guests who want to get off the ship and explore the jungle up close. Whichever vessel you choose, it is always best to go prepared. Here is a suggested packing list to make your time in the Amazon most enjoyable.
