The wet subtropical climate did not made it easy for wines to be grown in Paraguay. Paraguay is more of a “beer” country, and is also known for its unique soups.
By the early 1600s, Paraguay’s captial, Asuncion, had almost 200 wineries! Sopa Paraguaya is a unique stew made of corn bread. The national drink is tereré, yerba mate tea, also common in Uruguay and Argentina.
