1. The Colchagua Valley

First on our list of the best Chilean wine regions is the Colchagua Valley. Just 100 miles (180 km) south of Santiago is the Colchagua Valley, famous for its Cabernet, Carménère, Syrah, and Malbec wines. Each winery here beams with history and charm. The Colchagua Valley is renowned for having the most fertile land for producing fine wines, mostly red varieties.

Most of these wineries were began in the 19th century with vines brought from France. Colchagua has quite a Meditteranean climate however a bit cooler than the Maipo Valley. Its nickname is the “Napa Valley of Chile.”

Probably the most popular town of the Colchagua Valley is Santa Cruz. Here, enjoy wine boutique hotels, the Tinguiririca River, and the many vineyards.

2. The Maipo Valley

This is Chile’s oldest and most diverse wine region known for its Cabernets.

The Casablanca Valley is 47 miles (75 km) northwest of Santiago. It’s quite new for Chilean standards as the wine cultivation started in 1980. These wines were originally produced from French and German vines. The most popular wines from this Chilean wine region include Casillero del Diablo, Cono Sur or Concha y Toro.

4. The Aconcagua Valley

Last on our list is the Aconcagua Valley is just 40 miles (65 km) north of Santiago, in the east of Valparaiso region. Here you will see Mt. Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas sitting at 22,828 feet (6,956 meters). This Chilean wine region has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers that become cool with the Pacific Ocean breeze.

This region is most popular for producing red varieties that include Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Carmenere. New coastal vineyards have started growing white grapes and producing delicious Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Here you’ll visit vineyards sitting along the Aconcagua River at the foot of the Andes Mountains. As an area, this region is Denomination of Origin of Chile.
