The day trips from Bogota and Medellin were excellent with guides that spoke great English and were fun to talk with. The city tour of Cartagena was also excellent with a wonderful tour guide. The Hotel Casa Verde in Santa Marta was wonderful. With only 5 rooms and a very friendly staff, it was like a home away from home. Probably one of the outstanding moments of the trip was being invited to the wedding reception of one of the owners of Hotel Casa Verde, which was held in the courtyard. The hotels in Bogota and Medillin were also very good.
The trip to Rosario was pleasant, but would have been better with a guide who spoke more than a few words of English. I can understand Spanish when it is spoken slowly, so we worked it out, but others on the tour understand no Spanish. Since I'm not a heat and humidity person and since Tayrona Park was not at it best because of a drought, I would have preferred an alternative trip. I couldn't recommend the Monterrey Hotel in Cartagena as they had poor customer service and other aspects I didn't like. The room had good air conditioning so that was a plus.
