Top 7 Patagonia Cruises

One of the best Patagonia cruises is the Australis cruise between Ushuaia in Chile and Punta Arenas in Chile. This is a great way to link the two countries and a highlight of any trip to Patagonia you’ll round Cape Horn, the most southern point of South America, and explore fjords and stunning scenery along the way.

In Chile, there are several excellent Patagonia cruises including the Skorpios cruises which navigate the intricate and beautiful network of channels and fjords on a Chilean Patagonia cruise. There are two different routes, one starting from Puerto Natales and the other from Puerto Montt – both take in glaciers and have regular land excursions.

Cruise Patagonia’s Waters, See Penguins, & More

There are several highlights off the coast of Argentina to visit: go whale watching near the Valdes Peninsula, have tea in the Welsh community of Gaiman, spot penguin colonies, and explore the Tierra del Fuego National Park in Ushuaia. There are also Patagonia cruise that continue into Chile, or head south for Antarctica and the South Shetland Islands.

There are several Patagonia cruises that we can offer:

  • Cruises “around the horn,” between Santiago and Buenos Aires
  • Cruises of the Chilean northern and southern ice fjords
  • Cruises from Ushuaia to Antarctica, the South Shetland Islands, and more
  • Cruises from Santiago to Punta Arenas
  • Lake Crossings in catamarans between Puerto Varas and San Carlos de Bariloche

Patagonia Cruise FAQ’s

Thinking about a Patagonia cruise? Here’s a list of frequently asked questions we often hear from our guests. Visit our Patagonia Vacation Planning page for in-depth Peru travel tips.

What is the best month for a Patagonia cruise?

Most Patagonia cruises operate from around mid-September to April, avoiding the Patagonian winter months. Days are longest in December and January and this is when the weather is likely to be best, however, these are also the most expensive months and there is a lot to be said for visiting in spring and autumn.

What do you do on a Patagonia cruise?

Most cruises include regular landings along the way, you’ll often disembark in smaller boats called zodiacs and then have a guided walk, observe wildlife such as penguins, or visit small settlements. The level of activity on the cruises is mostly quite moderate, no special levels of fitness are needed.

How much does a Patagonia cruise cost?

This depends a lot on the ship, itinerary and cabin type you choose, but expect upwards of about US$600 per day including meals and excursions.

Can you take a cruise to Antarctica?

Yes, you can! There are two ways to get to Antarctica. One is to take a cruise from Ushuaia, Argentina where you’ll cross the infamous Drake Passage. The other way is to fly from Punta Arenas, Chile, and land on King George Island in Antarctica.
