For trekking, South Americas most famous trek is the Inca Trail. There are many others too, like the Lost City Trek in Colombia and the W Trek in Patagonia. White water rafting is possible in many places including the Lake District in Argentina, the Sacred Valley in Peru and San Gil in Colombia to name just a few. Few places are more spectacular for paragliding than Rio de Janeiro. Mountain biking is possible in many places and zip-lining too. Just let us know your interests and well put together a customized South America adventure tour.
There are many options, but Peru is hard to beat. In a relatively small area around Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, it is possible to trek in the Andes (either the Inca Trail or one of the many other treks), go white water rafting, mountain bike between Inca Ruins, horse-ride in the Sacred Valley and zip-line with mountain views. Combine this with a trip to the Amazon Rainforest where you can fish for piranhas, kayak and even tree climb and you have the perfect destination for a South America adventure tour.
Treks in the Andes are amongst the best treks in South America if not the world. Patagonia should appeal to anyone who likes wide open spaces and dramatic views. In El Chalten there are numerous day hikes. Torres del Paine has both day hikes and famous treks like the W Trek which takes several days, staying in simple mountain huts each night. Peru and Bolivia have fantastic high altitude treks, some are famous and well worn trails like the Inca Trail and Salkantay, others are well off the beaten track. Colombia has some great treks too, including the trek to the Lost City ascending over a couple of days to the spectacular ruins in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. For a truly off the beaten path trek, consider hiking to the Kaieteur Falls in Guyana a trek of several days through the rainforest.
