Sample Itinerary

A small town with scattered houses and greenery sits at the base of rocky, barren hills under a partly cloudy sky. In Patagonia, a river or lake along the foreground reflects the landscape—perfect for a group tour or guided tour experience.
Day 1

Welcome to El Calafate!

The town of El Calafate is the starting point for a visit to Los Glaciers national park. Of all the impressive landscapes of our country, this is the one you will remember most. Huge blue icebergs floating on the milky turquoise waters, cracking sounds of huge ice pieces falling in the lake and the Immense Perito Moreno Glacier (UNESCO World Heritage Site) will leave you breathless.

Transfer El Calafate Airport / El Calafate Hotel

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in El Calafate.

Transfer El Calafate Hotel / El Calafate Restaurant / El Calafate Hotel, private service, driver only

At the specified time, you will be transferred to the restaurant in El Calafate.

Welcome Dinner!

Three-course dinner with a non-alcoholic beverage and a glass of wine

A straight, empty road leads toward distant snow-capped mountains under a bright blue Patagonian sky with scattered clouds. Grassy plains border the road, creating a dramatic landscape perfect for a guided group tour of Patagonia essentials.
Day 2

Transfer El Calafate Hotel / El Chaltén Hotel

At the specified time, you will be transferred from your hotel in El Calafate to your hotel in El Chalten.

Welcome to Chalten!

The remote village of El Chaltén overlooks the northern and most beautiful section of Los Glaciares National Park – a natural playground for adventure seekers, trekkers and climbers in the Austral Andes. Founded in 1985, this once tiny village has become a mecca for hikers – the gateway for world-class trails to the surrounding mountain peaks and lakes thus offering some of the best trekking in the country, it’s no wonder it is known as the ‘trekking capital’ of Argentina. El Chaltén serves as a great base for both day trips and adventures into the famously pristine landscapes of the region.

Half-Day Trekking Cóndores & Águilas Viewpoints

You will meet the mountain guide at your hotel or at a set meeting point. We will start the hike by crossing over the bridge of the Fitz Roy River, at the town entrance, and then continuing along to the National Park offices. From here we pick the trail and walk up the path to the viewpoint.

After a gentle climb for about 40 minutes, we will arrive at Los Cóndores viewpoint which is strategically located for the chance of spotting condors on their frequent flight between the valleys of the Rio de las Vueltas and the Rio Fitz Roy.

The other viewpoint, Las Águilas, is not far away, with just 30 minutes between one and the other, a gentle stroll along the path to admire the vast space of the Patagonian steppe and immensity of Lake Viedma.
Then you will return by your own to the hotel from the staring meeting point.

Turquoise glacial lake surrounded by rocky mountains and snow-capped peaks under a clear blue sky, with small hikers visible along the shoreline—an iconic scene perfect for any Patagonia Essentials guided group tour.
Day 3

Full-Day Trekking Laguna de los Tres

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in El Chaltén and head out following the provincial route 41 along the Río de las Vueltas to the Río Eléctrico, located 15 km from downtown.

Without crossing the bridge, we will start the trek along a beautiful trail following the Río Blanco towards the Poincenot campsite, through a dense forest of Lengas trees that shield us from the winds from the Ice Field (Continental Ice). Along the way, you will have the opportunity to see various glaciers like Marconi, Eléctrico, Cagliero, and in the distance, towards Lago del Desierto, Vespignani.

We will ascend to the Piedras Blancas Glacier viewpoint and then continue to the Poincenot campsite, where you can already admire the peaks like “S”, Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz, and Guillaumet. Leaving Poincenot behind, we start the most demanding kilometer of the trail to Laguna de los Tres, where we will ascend 400 meters. It will be a challenging kilometer of constant ascent over rocky and stepped terrain, but the views at the end will be a great
reward. You will contemplate the imposing Cerro Fitz Roy along with the surrounding peaks, eternal snows, and glaciers descending to the Sucia and De los Tres lagoons.

After a lunch break, we will begin the return hike through varied landscapes, accompanied by crystal-clear streams and trickles of water. We will also visit Laguna Capri, a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts, before arriving back in El Chaltén.

A cluster of white houses with green roofs sits among trees on a grassy landscape, with a lake and snow-capped mountains in the background under a clear sky—perfect for an El Calafate or Patagonia Eco Tour experience.
Day 4

Half-day Via Ferrata at Estancia Bonanza – Optional Tour

Today you will experience the safest way to climb combining hiking and scrambling, and it doesn’t require any climbing experience. The rock is equipped with a steel cable anchored, which runs up the entire route.

Placing ladder rungs, steel steps, suspension bridges strategically along the iron path, allowing climbers to move trough challenging terrain. With an epic ending zip line, leading the group to the higher part of the mountain, to enjoy the fantastic views of the valley, mountains, glaciers and Fitz Roy range.

This Via Ferrata’s special construction allows you to slide a locked carabiner on your harness over each permanent anchor point without ever having to detach it from the cable, making it a safer, secure and fun experience. The Via Ferrata runs 1800 ft (600 mts), and the elevation gain is 600 ft (200 mts).

A small town with colorful houses is nestled in a green valley near El Chalten, surrounded by rocky cliffs and distant mountains under a bright blue sky—perfect for joining a trekking tour.
Day 5

Half-Day Huemules Natural Reserve

At the specified time, we will pick you up from your hotel to head to Estancia Los Huemules. This is a private natural reserve, located about 20 km from El Chaltén; a pristine location where few visitors arrive, which guarantees a unique hiking experience and hardly seeing anyone else.

The ranch has a diverse network of trails to explore covering about 25 km. At the Visitors Centre you will find information about the reserve, the trails, the history of the area, indigenous cultures and flora and fauna.

After the excursion, we will take you back to your hotel in El Chaltén.

A massive glacier meets turquoise water, with floating ice chunks. Snow-capped mountains and forested hills surround the scene beneath a partly cloudy sky—classic Patagonia Essentials on a guided group tour.
Day 6

Transfer El Chaltén Hotel / El Calafate Hotel

At the specified time, you will be transferred to El Calafate.

Half-Day at El Galpón del Glaciar

At the scheduled time, you will head to El Galpón del Glaciar, where you will be welcomed with a variety of hot beverages and traditional homemade pastries.

Next, you’ll witness a sheep herding demonstration, carried out by gauchos on horseback. The guide will share the history of how the ranches in Santa Cruz were founded, along with the full sheep farming process.

You will then take a guided walk to the shore of Lake Argentino, along an interpretive trail that highlights historical sites, the lifestyle of the first settlers, and the native flora and fauna of the Patagonian steppe.

You’ll also see a sheep shearing demonstration in the original shearing shed from 1912, with a detailed explanation of the process, the roles of the workers, wool quality, pricing, and its place in the international market.

Later, you’ll enjoy a traditional dinner. At the end of the evening, a private transfer will take you back to your hotel.

A person stands on rocky ground, facing a massive glacier with jagged blue ice, set against dark green mountains and cloudy skies in the background.
Day 7

Full-Day Perito Moreno Glacier

We will pick you up from your hotel to take you to Los Glaciares National Park, located 47 km from El Calafate. Your guide will show you the various walkways in front of the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier, where towering walls of ice shimmer in shades of blue and, if you are lucky, you may witness dramatic ice calving. You will start from the main balcony and then have free time to wander and admire the glacier at your own pace until the agreed meeting time with your guide. After exploring the park, you will be taken back to your hotel.

Nautical Safari Navigation

Embark on a 1-hour boat safari along the Perito Moreno Glacier, marveling at the towering 70-meter-high ice walls and the vibrant blue hues of this awe-inspiring natural wonder.

Dinner at Rancho Aparte

Today you will meet Gabo, who opens the doors of his home and kitchen for a unique and warm gastronomic experience in El Calafate. The host proposes to get to know this city, its people, and its places from the point of view of a local person.

Rancho Aparte is a closed-door home restaurant where you can feel the warmth and the aroma of homemade food, share a wine between talks and laughter, make new friends…and feel at home!

The homemade menu includes:

  • Starter: Vegetable cream soup.
  • Main course: Braised lamb (4 hours of cooking in white wine) with wedge potatoes or Lamb pie (Lamb, caramelized onion, mushrooms, sweet potato, and Malbec).
  • Dessert: White chocolate brownie with Calafate ice cream.
  • Mineral water + non-alcoholic drink or three-step pairing (Patagonian wineries).
  • Vegetarian option: Ricotta and spinach Malfatti in almond cream.

Minitrekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier – Optional Tour

We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning to take you to Los Glaciares National Park, located at 50 miles from El Calafate, home of the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier. At the “Bajo de las Sombras” port we will embark to reach the opposite shore of the Magallanes Peninsula, crossing the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino. Navigation time is approximately 20 minutes.

The specialized guides will lead the group along the coastline to the southern margin of the glacier and will give you crampons for the ice walk. Then, we will begin to slowly ascend the glacier, with occasional stops to take pictures while enjoying the different formations. The walk on the ice will last about 1 hour and a half.

Once we descend, we will take a path through the forest to return to the refuge.
