Brazil has some fascinating train journeys and Argentina and Chile have train routes too. Trains from one country to another arent really an option though, so youll still need to do some road, boat or air travel if combining countries, but it is absolutely possible to include some train journeys in almost any South America tour.

Yes, though not many. There are trains from Santiago going south to Chillan. Other than that, due to the shape and size of the country, flights are the most common way to cover long distances or good quality long-distance buses for those with the time.
Yes. There are a number of long-distance train routes in Argentina. For example from Buenos Aires to Tucuman and Cordoba. If youre interested in train travel in Argentina, let us know and we should be able to include at least one train journey on your trip. Most trains in Argentina are simple but functional rather than luxurious.
