For railfan enthusiasts traveling in Colombia, the tourist train aboard a diesel locomotive from Bogotá to Zipaquirá makes a great day trip. Board the train at the station in Bogotá in the morning, and then ride 2 hours until you reach Zipaquirá. The train ride is scenic, and includes musicians performing typical Colombian Andean music. From there, enjoy a guided tour of the Salt Cathedral, and have lunch in the nearby town of Cajicá. In the afternoon, take a tour of the Nemocon mines and have some free time to explore the town on your own. The train returns to Bogotá in the late afternoon. Please note, the train only runs on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Day 1

Once you arrive at the Bogotá airport, your tour guide will be waiting for you, and will take you to your hotel in Bogotá. After a brief rest, take a half-day city tour through Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. Visit Plaza de Bolívar, the colonial centre, and the colorful La Candelaria district. Also see the churches of San Francisco and La Tercera, and the Museo del Oro. At the end of the tour, take a cable car ride to the top of Monserrate Hill for views of the city.

Day 2
