Buenos Aires to Tierra del Fuego Cruise

Today, transfer from the hotel in Ushuaia to the Australis cruise check-in office. Drop off luggage and then return to the city for one last free afternoon of exploring.

Cruise down the Beagle and the Murray Channels and disembark in Cape Horn National Park. A natural sea wall rising to almost 425m high, Cape Horn was discovered on January 30, 1616, by a commercial expedition from the Netherlands and named after the Port of Hoorn where the idea originated in 1615. Later, disembark in Walaia Bay, a culturally significant indigenous site in the region.

Sail along the Northwest arm of the Beagle Channel to reach Pia Fjord. Disembark the ship and join the experienced crew on a short hike. The hike will lead you to spectacular views of the Pia Glacier, which extends from the mountaintops down to the sea.

In the afternoon, board Zodiac boats for a close-up look at Porter Glacier.

In the morning, sail through the Cockburn Channel and enter Agostini Sound. See the glaciers that descend from the middle of the Darwin Mountain Range. While here, disembark the ship and go for a leisurely stroll around a lagoon, which was formed by the melting of the Águila Glacier. Walk to a unique spot right in front of that glacier, offering stunning views. In the afternoon, approach the Condor Glacier via Zodiac, and hopefully, see some of the abundant Andean Condors that live in the area!

Early in the morning, head to Magdalena Island and step ashore. The island is home to an enormous penguin colony numbering more than 120,000 birds. Take a walk to San Isidro Lighthouse, once a vital landmark on the coastline guiding explorers and sailors on their way across the Magellan Strait. After the visit, return to Punta Arenas and depart by regular bus to see the wild yet beautiful Torres del Paine National Park on the following day.
