We often speak to travelers who wish that they had more time to travel. “If only we had two weeks, a month, three months… the places we could see!” Some people are lucky and have that much time to travel, but most can only squeeze in a week-long trip every once in a while. If this sounds like you, let’s make the most of that week! South America has so much to offer and so many experiences! Here are some of the best ways to spend your week off.

1. Machu Picchu and the Amazon Jungle Tour

On this trip, we share the story of Lima, the Amazon, Sacred Valley, Cuzco & Machu Picchu. This Peru tour special is probably the most popular week-long trip for any – and for good reason! Peru is famous for its history and the ruins of Machu Picchu are considered by some to be the gem of all of South America. You won’t be able to contain the feeling of awe when you see the remarkably preserved citadel. Pictures don’t do it justice.Machu Picchu, a top destination in South America, is a great hiking adventure. Especially with a view of the city such as this. The Amazon is also the ultimate destination for adventure-seekers. The amount of wildlife that you can see is stunning, with the fan-favorites being the macaw parrots and monkeys! For food-lovers, Lima is the place to be! It contains three of the top ten best restaurants in South America, with “Central” being number one on the list. These restaurants, as well as the quality of chefs that are attracted to practice their art of cuisine here, have contributed to Lima being lauded as the “Culinary Capital of South America”.

2. Rio, Tropical Island and the Historical Port of Paraty

Dig your toes into the sand on Brazil’s beaches in Rio de Janeiro, Ilha Grande, and Paraty. This Brazil tour package is an amazing choice if you are looking to take in some amazing beach and waterfront destinations. Rio de Janeiro’s beauty is a sight to see. The water, topography, and people make it one of the most special places on earth in our opinion. You will fall in love with the lifestyle of the Carioca, with their laid-back and friendly beach vibes. Not to mention the views from Sugar Loaf Mountain & Christ the Redeemer! It’s a can’t miss destination. A beach in Rio with a view of Sugarloaf mountain. One of the Best Destinations in South America. While Rio’s beaches are a scene with all of the football (soccer), volleyball, fitness classes, and people showing off their athletic physiques (mostly in speedos!), Ilha Grande is a quiet oasis. There are no cars allowed on the island and this creates a very peaceful and quiet setting. With the beautiful Lopes Mendes beach and the backdrop of the Atlantic Rainforest, there are opportunities for both relaxing and exploring. Paraty is another gem in Brazil. With its unique architecture and cobblestone streets, you’ll feel transported to an older, simpler time. It’s the perfect place to finish off a relaxing beach vacation.

3. Custom Design your own trip to Colombia

If you are traveling from North America and don’t want to travel too far, look no further then Colombia! With its excellent climate and interesting culture, you are in for quite a trip. Bogota, the capital city, is located in the mountains about 8,500 feet above sea level. The city has a wonderful sense of history, including one of the most incredible gold museums in the world. There are great restaurants seemingly on every corner and there is no shortage of great neighborhoods to explore.Mendellin is one of the Best Destinations in South America for the Holiday Season. This image is of a church. Medellin is called the “city of eternal spring” for its perpetually comfortable climate. Behind its comfortable climate; however, is a city with a fascinating history. Much like Las Vegas and the mafia Medellin also has an interesting story to tell. The cartels of the 80s and 90s made a deep impact on the city formerly. Over the past 20 years though it has gone through a complete transformation. The neighborhood that has changed the most, Comuna 13, is a place you won’t want to miss for its art and music. Cartagena is one of the most exciting places to be in South America. With the colorful buildings within the walled city on the coast, it has the definite feeling of a pirate city. You will find yourself mesmerized by the architecture in the walled city and won’t want to leave. At least that’s what happened to me!
