Day 1ARRIVE AT LODGE CORTO MALTES AMAZONIA

Transfer to Lodge Corto Maltes Amazonia where the lodge staff will welcome you with informational guides and seasonal fruit! In the afternoon, after you have had some time to settle in, depart for your first encounter with the rainforest. Throughout your hike through the rainforest, learn about the natural medicinal plants and the exuberant nature that thrive in these tropical conditions.

After your hike, return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation. Sip on a specially crafted cocktail by the pool or sway in the hammocks on the terrace of your private bungalow. The night is yours.

Day 2 LAKE SANDOVAL & MONKEY ISLAND

Leave the lodge bright and early for your navigation down Madre de Dios river. Once you reach Lake Sandoval, hike through abundant vegetation to the Tambopata National Reserve. There, you will have plenty of opportunities to see giant trees, monkeys, and various bird species. Later, visit Monkey Island with your camera ready. You might come into close contact with the 5 species of monkeys that live here!

After your excursion to Lake Sandoval and Monkey Island, visit the lookout towers of Corto Maltes Amazonia for some fantastic views designed entirely for birdwatching and the rise and fall of the sun. Then, return to the lodge for some free time by the pool or at the spa, until your evening dinner.

Day 3CHACRA & NATIVE FAMILY VISIT

Today you will visit Chacra, a local family-owned farm in the region. While here, learn how the native people produce plants without the use of harsh chemicals, which are later taken to the main market in Puerto Maldonado to be sold. Taste multiple types of tropical fruits that are in season and other domestic products such as, banana, cacao, breadfruit and more.

The native family will also teach you their customs and most popular activities such as fishing, hunting, and handicraft. They might even share some of their secrets about the medicinal plants, notably the Ayahuasca. Your visit will conclude with an outdoor lunch with the family’s most traditional meal.

Day 4ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER TARICAYA & CANOPY WALKWAY

Today, travel by boat to the Animal Rescue Center Taricaya. This project’s primary goal is to take care of injured and rescued animals and nurse them to health so that they can relocate back to their natural habitat. During your visit here, you will see different species of animals such as jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, exotic birds, etc.

The project also provides you with the opportunity to take the Canopy Walk, that offers beautiful vistas for bird watching, and spotting local flora and fauna. It will take roughly 30 minutes of hiking through the primary forest to reach the top of this hanging bridge. But those 30 minutes of exercise are well worth the view at the top.

Day 5 CLAY LICK & DEPARTURE

Wake up early for a cup of coffee or tea before you begin your excursion to the clay lick. The clay lick is where parrots come to eat one of their most important dietary substances: clay! Here, witness 3 to 5 types of parrots flock around the area for this health supplement. It will be a colorful event unlike any other.

Later, indulge in one last breakfast in the Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge before transferring back to Puerto Maldonado by boat. A vehicle will be waiting for you in the city to drive you to the local market where you can do some shopping before you catch your flight home or to your next destination.

Day 1JUNGLE TREK AND CAIMAN SAFARI

Arrive at Corto Maltes Lodge and immediately begin your adventure. After you have settled your belongings inside the lodge, depart for the rainforest with an experienced guide. Throughout your exploration, observe tropical trees and lively wildlife. On your way back, stop briefly at a viewpoint, where you will be able to spot all sorts of toucans and bird species.

After some free time in the afternoon, join your new mates on a caiman safari. Climb aboard a boat for your nocturnal adventure. Spot caimans and quite possibly other animals that live along the riverbank.

Day 2MONKEY ISLAND & LOOKOUT TOWERS

Start your busy day with a trip to Lake Sandoval. Navigate the waters on small rowing boats, searching for giant otters, and other wildlife. After, stop at a rest area for breakfast and a moment of relaxation before you venture to Monkey Island.

On Monkey Island, you will quickly notice 5 different types of monkeys that live here. Don’t be shy, as these wild animals tend to come close to new visitors. After Monkey Island, visit one of the two lookout towers for spectacular views of the rainforest. Keep your eye out for all sorts of wildlife that live at this altitude. Spend some time here, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime view, especially during sunset.

Day 3CHACRA & NATIVE FAMILY VISIT

Day 1RAINFOREST WALK & CAIMAN SAFARI

After you’ve settled your belongings into your cozy bungalow, venture out with an experienced guide to explore the rainforest. Learn about the tropical trees and abundant nature of Corto Maltes Amazonia. You will even get to peer over the treetops at a spectacular viewpoint, perfect for spotting toucans and other bird species.

At night, join your new mates on a caiman safari. You will leave for a nocturnal boat ride after dinner, where you will be able to see caimans, and possibly some other animals that live along the riverbank.

Day 2LAKE SANDOVAL, MONKEY ISLAND, & LOOKOUT TOWERS

Navigate the Madre de Dios River as you make your way to Lake Sandoval. Once you have arrived at Lake Sandoval, cruise along the water in small rowing boats. As you cruise, you will have every opportunity to spot the wildlife that inhabits the water and surrounding land. Keep an eye out for snakes, monkeys, and various birds.

Later in the day, travel to Monkey Island. On Monkey Island, you will be greeted by 5 different types of monkeys. They are not shy with new visitors, so have your camera ready for some excellent photo opportunities!

Your final stop of the day will be atop the lookout towers. Hopefully, you aren’t afraid of heights, because at 20-42 meters high these towers are designed for optimal bird watching and wildlife spotting. It’s an excellent viewpoint, especially during sunset.

Day 3CLAY LICK & DEPARTURE

Rise and shine! It’s your last day at Corto Maltes Lodge. Wake up early and grab a cup of coffee before you embark on your final excursion to the clay lick. The clay lick is where parrots come to eat one of their most important dietary substances: clay! Here, witness this very colorful event, of multiple types of parrots flocking for this essential dietary supplement.

As the afternoon hits, bid farewell to Corto Maltes Lodge and transfer back to Puerto Maldonado by boat. A vehicle transfer will be waiting for you in the city to drive you to the local market where you can do some shopping before you catch your flight home or to your next destination.
