Itinerary

Day 1INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZONICA LODGE

Fly into the Puerto Maldonado airport, where your guide will be waiting for you. Stop by the must-see Inkaterra Butterfly House near the airport, before leaving the city. Your guide will take you to the port, where you’ll board an outboard motorboat for a 45-minute ride along the Madre de Dios River. Once you reach the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge, you’ll receive a short briefing and welcome drink from the staff, explaining all the available activities that you can do during your stay.

Unpack, rest in your bungalow or suite, and have lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, take a guided walk along the trails surrounding the lodge to get acquainted with the area. In the evening, take a twilight riverboat excursion to enjoy the water at sunset.

Return to the lodge, and have some cocktails with your fellow guests before dinner. After the meal, relax in the main lodge room or retire to your bungalow.

Day 2SANDOVAL LAKE EXCURSION & CANOPY WALK

Wake up early to avoid the heat and enjoy a hearty breakfast while nature is at its fullest. This morning, enjoy an excursion to Sandoval Lake, which is the “jewel” in the Tambopata National Reserve. There are many giant river otters, birds, and other wildlife who call this lake home. In the afternoon, return to the lodge for lunch. You may want to try the canopy walk, to see the treetops and maybe even glimpse the sunset from the forest canopy. In the evening, have cocktails and dinner, and enjoy an informative presentation on the local flora and fauna.

Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3RETURN TO PUERTO MALDONADO AIRPORT

Enjoy a full breakfast before departing the lodge. Take the 45-minute return boat trip on the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado Airport.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL AT RESERVA AMAZONICA

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, you will be greeted and transported to the river port. Set out on a motorboat down the Madre de Dios River to Reserva Amazonica (45 min), until you arrive at the lodge. Enjoy the welcoming accommodations and lunch at the lodge.

After you have settled your belongings, take a guided walk along the lodge’s trail system. Then, enjoy an evening nature presentation on Amazonian topics. Dinner will consist of typical Amazonian cuisine. At night, opt for an evening walk, where you will identify the sounds of the Amazon’s animals.

Day 2ROLIN ISLAND & LAKE SANDOVAL

Today, enjoy a tropical breakfast buffet at the lodge before you embark on your excursion to Rolin Island with the possibility of observing various species of monkeys. Visit the wetlands flooded ecosystem, and marvel at the abundance of life and greenery. In the afternoon, lunch will be served at the lodge.

Later, transfer by boat down the Madre de Dios River for your 1-hour trek to Lake Sandoval. Upon arrival, choose a rowboat excursion around the lake, or swim in the lukewarm waters. As the day comes to a close, watch the sunset over the lake and observe the moon rise.

Return downstream the River to Reserva Amazonica with a chance of observing caimans and nocturnal birds along the ride. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3GAMITANA CREEK EXCURSION

Wake up early and enjoy another tropical breakfast at the lodge. Then, prepare to visit a native Amazonian farm. Motorboat to Gamitana Creek, where you can observe birds, monkeys, tortoises and alligators. Learn from a local guide how to fish using native techniques. Lunch will be provided on one of the creek beaches, tasting Amazonian fishes.

Later, return to Reserva Amazonica while watching the sunset. Dinner tonight will be at the lodge’s campfire. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 4RETURN TO PUERTO MALDONADO AND LIMA

On your last day in the Amazon Jungle, you will have one last opportunity to indulge in the tropical breakfast provided. Then, return to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for your flight home or to your next destination!

Optional: Visit the Butterfly Farm before you depart from Puerto Maldonado Airport.

Day 1PUERTO MALDONADO - INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZONICA

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, visit the Inkaterra Butterfly House near the airport. Then, take a land transfer to the boarding wharf. Begin your rainforest experience on a 45-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River. Arrive at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica lodge, where you will have a short briefing of the history of the Amazon as well as the staff and crew. Settle into your beautiful cabana, enjoy lunch in the dining room, and relax.

Later, take a guided walk along the trail system, exploring the natural surroundings of the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Then, enjoy an afternoon cocktail followed by dinner in the main dining room. Once the sun sets, embark on a Twilight River excursion. Once you have returned back to the lodge, retire early or join your mates for a cocktail, going over your first day in the Amazon.

Day 2SANDOVAL LAKE EXCURSION

Rest in bed or rise early. Enjoy a hearty breakfast (served from 7:30-9:30 a.m. to avoid the heat) and enjoy nature at its fullest. Then, begin your Sandoval Lake excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. After, return to the Inkaterra lodge for lunch. After lunch, join in on the Inkaterra Canopy Walk. This walk offers spectacular panoramic views of the Amazon Jungle. You can extend this excursion to appreciate the sunset from one of the towers.

Return back to the lodge and enjoy evening cocktails in the main dining room or during the daily nature presentation in the Eco-Media Center. Enjoy dinner and reminisce on today’s jungle adventures.

Day 3GAMINATANA CREEK EXCURSION

Enjoy a trip to Gamitana Creek home to many piranhas, caiman, turtles, and birds, 45 minutes by boat from the Inkaterra lodge. Later, travel to Gamitana Farm to see how local farmers raise fruits and vegetables and enjoy a picnic lunch. After lunch, join in on a short guided tour of the farm, to see up-close how the farmers raise fruits and vegetables. The rest of the afternoon will be free for you to spend how you wish.

Day 4CONCEPCION EXCURSION

Today is a fantastic day to spot wildlife. Enjoy the Concepcion excursion, with over 200 different plant species, followed by a 30-minute canoe trip to look for turtles, sun grebes, nightjars and exotic herons.

Return to the Inkaterra lodge for a lunch of delicious Peruvian cuisine. After lunch, visit an Ese Eja family farm 25 minutes downstream from the lodge. On your final night, savor the tranquillity of the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge.

Day 5TRANSFER BACK TO PUERTO MALDONADO

Enjoy a full breakfast before departure. Take a 45-minute boat trip on the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado Airport. Board your flight home or to your next destination!
