Chan Chan UNESCO World Heritage Site

The archaeological site of Chan Chan, located in northern Peru near Trujillo, was the largest pre-Columbian city in Peru. It was the center of the Chimu kingdom, which reigned from 850 AD until the Incas conquered them in 1470. The Chan Chan capital has been well-preserved, with remarkable designs marked throughout the adobe city. The archaeological excavations since the 1960s have been extensive. There are 10 walled citadels with ceremonial rooms, burial chambers, temples, reservoirs, and residences. The adobe walls have intricate designs of animals. There were also high-quality ceramics found here, along with jewelry, tools, and textiles.
