“Salta la Linda” (Salta the Beautiful) is both a city and province in the Northwestern region of Argentina. Located along the Tropic of Capricorn, the town enjoys a subtropical highland climate. This means warm, dry weather and a lot of blue sky. With over half a million inhabitants, Salta enjoys its position as the largest city in this part of the country. The town is placed at the head of the Lerma Valley in the eastern foothills of the Andes mountain range, at an altitude of 1,150 meters (3,780 feet) above sea level. The Hotel Casa Real (Royal House) is centrally located, allowing for easy access to Salta’s art and history museums, colonial architecture, churches and cathedral. Salta has the best preserved colonial architecture in the country, making for great walking tours from the hotel.
