Upon arrival in Bogotá, your guide will greet you and escort you to your hotel. A blend of old and new, the cultural heritage of the city can be seen in both its citizens and architecture alike. Rust-colored brick buildings and green parks dominate the urban landscape, and the city is home to a diverse mix of people from across the country.
See Bogotá’s main attractions on a guided city tour today. Visit the Plaza de Bolívar, the government buildings, and the old city known as “La Candelaria”. Learn some cultural and religious history with visits to the San Francisco and La Tercera Churches. Enter the Gold Museum and be dazzled by more than 30,000 gold relics on display dating back to pre-Imperial times. Finally, don’t miss the “Nuestro Señor Caído” sanctuary in Monserrate for a spectacular view of Bogotá and its surroundings.
After an introduction to Bogotá, fly to the village of Nuqui. Perched on the coast of the Pacific, walk around the village briefly and then ride a motorboat south to Coqui Bay. Spend three luxurious nights at the lovely El Cantil lodge overlooking the sea and nestled in a tropical forest. It’s the perfect setting for a rustic and romantic experience. Take a diving lesson and learn to explore underwater, or simply relax in a hammock at the lodge. More adventurous travelers can hike around the jungle or coast, or participate in the range of activities available from the lodge.
In the morning, return to Nuqui and board a plane to Medellin. From there head to a coffee plantation close to Pereira, located in the heart of Colombia’s coffee-growing region. Spend two nights in a traditional finca or hacienda, and awake to the aroma of freshly roasted beans each morning.
Today, jump in a jeep and drive to the Snow Mountains in the Los Nevados National Park. Arrive near the crater of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano some 5,400m above sea level. Enjoy the changing landscapes and climates in this area. At midday, return to Pereira to learn about the production and cultivation of coffee in the Colombian Mountains.
Catch a plane to Bogotá then transfer to San Agustín. Follow the Magdalena River and appreciate the mountain landscapes. Arrive in Neiva and make yourself at home in the hotel where you’ll spend three nights.
Step back in time and visit the San Agustín Archaeological Park, the Lavapata Ceremonial Fountain and the Archaeological Museum. After lunch, enjoy a horse ride to the archaeological parks of El Tablón and La Chaquira.
This morning, travel to San José de Isnos and visit the Archaeological Park with the Alto de los ídolos and Alto de la Piedras. Don’t miss the impressive cascades of Salto del Mortiño and Salto de Bordones. Spend the afternoon exploring the town of San Agustín.
Return to Neiva and board a plane back to Bogotá. Take a connecting flight to the romantic city of Cartagena on the Caribbean coast. Be greeted by your guide and check into your hotel overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Gain local insights with a half-day tour of this vibrant city. Cartagena de Indias is one of the most impressive urban centers in Latin America, a mix of Caribbean flair and Spanish colonial culture. Enclosed by towering walls and forts to guard against pirates, Cartagena’s history can be told by its architecture. The old city boasts colorful houses with flowers, Spanish-style rooftops, La Popa convent and the majestic castle of San Felipe. During a few free hours in the afternoon, wander around the city or swim in the Caribbean sea.
Dive into the underwater world at Islas del Rosario National Park. Visit the San Martin Island natural aquarium and watch a dolphin and shark show. Lunch is included in the tour. Next, visit Pirate’s Island and take a refreshing swim or snorkel in the crystal waters. Search for corals, starfish and other marine life. In the evening, whet your appetite at one of Cartagena’s best restaurants (also included in the tour).
After breakfast, head to the airport and fly to Bogotá. From there take a flight home or continue discovering the rest of Colombia. Sun-lovers will enjoy the beach resorts in Cartagena, Capurganá, Santa Marta San Andrés or Providencia.
