Top 4 Cartagena Tours

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the port city of Cartagena sits on the Caribbean Coast. Cartagena was the first Spanish colony on the American mainland. This historic port city features Spanish era fortress walls and San Felipe castle, used as protection against pirates. Sit on the walls in the evening, and you’ll feel like an extra in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. There are a multitude of things to do in Cartagena and the walled city is compact enough to explore on foot. Walk past flowering balconies, pleasant plazas and visit historic convents and museums. Take a trip by boat to the Rosario Islands and relax on the beaches and swim in the Caribbean Sea. Cartagena travel has it all.

Cartagena de Indias, the Heart of Colombia’s Caribbean

You can combine a visit to Cartagena with a tour of Colombia’s coffee country.

On our Cartagena, Colombia tours, you’ll get to explore the first Spanish colony on the American continent. Visit its historic old town from the Spanish colonial era surrounded by walls. Visit also the Palace of Inquisition where the Spanish conquistadors used to torture, judge and convict people accused of crimes against the religion. After a city tour of Cartagena, relax on the beautiful beaches and take a swim in the Caribbean. Embark for the Islas del Rosario, visit the aquarium and enjoy a dolphin and shark show. Swim in the beautiful crystal water and relax on the white sanded beach. See below for our tours in Cartagena, Colombia.

Cartagena Travel FAQ’s

Thinking about a Cartagena trip? Here’s a list of frequently asked questions we often hear from our guests.

Is Cartagena safe?

Absolutely, Cartagena travel is safe. The historic center of Cartagena is safe for tourists and this is a very popular destination on any tour of Colombia. In common with many cities, it is best not to carry around valuables or expensive jewellery though. The same applies to Cartagena’s beaches.

How far are the Rosario Islands from Cartagena?

It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get from Cartagena to the Rosario Island in a speedboat. It is easy to visit the islands on a day trip, or to stay overnight.

Are there beaches in Cartagena?

Yes there are, though the walled city is the most famous attraction rather than the beaches. The area around Bocagrande has the city’s most well known beaches and there are some just to the north of the city too. Also, it is possible to take boat trips to the Rosario Islands.
