Machu Picchu is by far the most famous tourist attraction in Peru. The adventurous can hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu camping along the way. There is a great deal more adventure options in the surrounding area too, such as rafting, horseback riding, and zip-lining.
If you are a keen trekker, there are lots of excellent trekking options in the Peruvian Andes. Some of the most famous treks are the Inca Trail, the Salkantay Trail, Lares Trail, and Choquequirao. These are all in the mountains around Cusco. Huaraz is another region of the Andes with great treks. If you are into day hikes more than treks, the Sacred Valley partway between Cusco and Machu Picchu is perfect. The Sacred Valley also has a number of other adventure activities such as zip-lining, horseback riding, and mountain biking.

From some Amazon lodges you can kayak, tree-climb, take a night hike and even fish for piranhas. Mountain biking is possible from some lodges too.
