Things to do in Antarctica

Unlike many destinations in the southern hemisphere, Antarctica is best reached by cruise instead of an airplane. Regarding flying, you will have to fly to a South American city, where your cruise will begin. In general, cruises to Antarctica start in South American cities, such as Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Ushuaia, etc.

Flights into Argentina: Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires is the main airport for travelers flying into Argentina. There is a separate domestic airport in Buenos Aires, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), available to those transferring from an international to a domestic flight. The main airport in Ushuaia, Argentina is Ushuaia-Malvinas Argentinas International Airport. It is located about 4 km south of the center of Ushuaia.

Flights to Montevideo, Uruguay: Montevideo, Uruguay, is a popular spot for cruises to Antarctica to begin. You can travel from Argentina to Uruguay and vice versa in many modes of transportation. There are flights, ferries, and buses that will transfer travelers. If you’re already in Buenos Aires, it is popular to take a ferry to Uruguay (prices will vary). If you’re coming from the United States, or another country, there are flights you can book from your current location to Uruguay. The main airport in Montevideo is Ángel S. Adami International Airport.

Once you have reached the beginning city of your Antarctica cruise, you will have no problems traveling to the icy, untouched continent. Many cruises take travelers to Antarctica. Hurtigruten Exploration Cruises recently partnered with SouthAmerica.travel, and make for an excellent option. There are a variety of Hurtigruten cruises that travel to Antarctica. Choose from the Antarctic Circle Expedition, the Ultimate Antarctica Experience, White Christmas in Antarctica, and more aboard the mighty MS Fram. Or climb aboard the MS Midnatsol for the Legendary Magellan Chilean Fjords and Antarctica cruise, the Patagonia and Antarctica cruise, or the South America and Antarctica cruise. All the fantastic options.
