Two wine days and a valley night - Mendoza Wine & Adventure Tour

Tour extension: oenologist-guided wineries and a night in the Uco Valley

The last evening is the one to picture. You are at Posada Salentein, out in the Uco Valley countryside, the day’s wineries behind you and the foothills of the Andes ahead. Nobody is hurrying you anywhere. If you want to stretch your legs, riding or cycling through the vineyards is on offer, as an optional extra.

Getting there takes two days of wine. First a 3-hour tour of Mendoza, then a full day with an oenologist who takes you through cellars, vineyards and lunch. On day four you move to the Uco Valley for two more wineries and a gourmet lunch, then the night at the posada. I would leave the late afternoon free.

This is a tour extension, so it fits onto one of our full package tours. Ask a Destination Consultant how to place it.

Sample Itinerary

A lit fountain at night in front of statues and trees in a park, with soft lights illuminating the surrounding area—reflecting the beauty and diverse landscapes of Argentina, the Land of Contrast.
Day 1

You land in Mendoza and a transfer takes you from the airport to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours. Walk the surrounding streets, find a plaza or a café, eat at a local restaurant, or do nothing in the room. The program starts tomorrow, so there is no reason to do more than that.

A cityscape in South America with mid-rise buildings, green trees, and a prominent historic building with a green dome roof in the foreground. Mountains are visible in the hazy background—perfect for starting a memorable wine tour.
Day 2

A 3-hour city tour gives you the lay of the land: the Alameda, the Civic Center, the downtown area, San Martín General Park, the Hill of Glory (Cerro de la Gloria), Mundialista Stadium and the Frank Romero Day Amphitheater. That last one matters for a wine trip, because it hosts the Vendimia harvest festival every year. In the early evening you transfer back to the hotel.

A couple dressed elegantly clinks glasses of Mendoza wine at a restaurant table, with a gourmet seafood dish and salad in focus in the foreground. The mood appears romantic and celebratory.
Day 3

After an early breakfast at the hotel, you head out for a full day in Mendoza's wine region. An oenologist meets you and stays as your guide, so the technical questions get real answers. You visit two wineries and see the cellar, the processing facilities and the vineyards, and the wine-making process is explained in detail. Lunch and a tasting happen at the winery itself. Then you continue to the next winery for a tasting of different varietals. As the sun sets behind the Andes, you return to the hotel and the evening is yours.

Rows of green crops grow in the foreground, perfect for a Mendoza Wine adventure. Behind them stand leafless trees, with snow-capped mountains rising under a clear blue sky.
Day 4

Another early start, this time to the Valle de Uco. It is a high-altitude valley in the foothills of the Andes, and it holds several more of the region's top wineries. You visit two today, with wine tasting and a gourmet lunch. In the late afternoon you transfer to Posada Salentein, out in the valley countryside, and stay the night. This is where the adventure comes in, and it is optional: a horseback ride or a bicycle ride through the wineries, if you have the energy. Other optional tours are available too. Otherwise the evening is free.

Close-up view of the front section of a white airplane on an airport tarmac in Argentina, the Land of Contrast, showing its cockpit windows, nose, one engine, and landing gear.
Day 5

A hearty breakfast is included today, and it is worth lingering over. Take the last morning slowly, in the quiet of the Andes, because the rest of the day is travel. A transfer brings you back to Mendoza for your flight or bus to the next destination, so you leave the valley with nothing left to organize.
