Day 1

Once you arriva at Calama airport, meet a representative who will transfer you to Tierra Atacama, located in San Pedro.

Meet your guide to choose one of the group excursions available for the day.

Puritama Hot Springs
If you want to unwind and get in contact with nature, this tour is for you! Consisting of eight natural pools with an average temperature of 33 ºC/ 91ºF, Puritama Hot Spring is located at the bottom of a steep-sided gorge, emerging as a verdant oasis within the driest desert in the world. Bathe in these natural waters contemplating the Atamanenian landscape and return to Tierra Atacama by van.

Day 2

Cornices

This tour will give you an insight on the natural and the cultural aspects of Atacama. Visit archaeological places that date back to per-Hispanic times, such as the Pukara de Quitor. Afterwards, contemplate mighty volcanoes on your way to the Death Valley or ‘Valle de la Muerte,’ which features surreal geological formations.

Duration: 2.5 - 3.5 hours

Machuca

Located at an altitude of 4000 m (13,125 ft), Machuca is an ancient one-street village with cactus-roofed constructions that enthrall people from all over the world.

Visit the church and learn about the impact Catholicism has had in Northern Chilean culture. There are chances of trying some barbecued llama made by the villagers.

Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Ancient petroglyphs of three animals, possibly deer or goats, are etched into a reddish-brown rock surface near Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa. The simple carvings appear weathered by time, capturing the region’s rich history.
Day 3

Anthropological Museum & Quitor Fortress (Pukara)

Visiting Father Le Paige Anthropological Museum in San Pedro de Atacama feels like traveling back in time and getting to understand the worldview of ancient Atacamenian civilizations. Also, visit the fortress of Quitor, also known as ‘Pukara de Quitor,’ which displays an ancient building and panoramic views of the desert.

Duration: 3 to 4 hours.

Petroglyphs

Communication is essential to human specie, and during prehistoric times, cage people used to represent the typical elements of their daily lives on stone walls. These petroglyphs or stone paintings are direct insights into the minds of our ancestors, who show us their symbols, signs, and culture long after their departure from the world.

Visit some caves in Atacama and admire the cave paintings portraying llamas and hunting tools among others to grasp an understanding of the lifestyle of the ancient local tribes.

When the visit is over, return to Tierra Atacama.

Day 4

After this unforgettable journey, transfer back to Calama airport to continue your journey through South America or return home.

It is also possible to spend more time at Tierra Atacama and take some other excursions, such Astronomy in the starry desert, Ruta Purilaktis, the Tatio Geysers, Altiplanic Miscanti and Meñiques Lagoon, etc.
