The Best Places to Stay in Valparaiso Chile

Many of our clients come to visit Valparaiso when visiting Chile and will often ask, where to stay in Valparaiso? It’s an excellent question, as Valparaiso is a major highlight for anyone planning a Chile tour. Amongst all the quirkiness of the city, you can choose from a number of great Valparaiso hotels that we love and have a great location in this great city. When considering where to stay in Valparaiso we highly recommend opting for something from this handy list.

1. Gran Hotel Gervasoni

This boutique 4-star hotel offers travelers the opportunity to explore Valparaiso in an intimate fashion. It features a prime location in the historic district known as Cerro Concepcion — the famous hillside dotted with colorful dwellings that overlook the bay. The neighborhood was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Many shops and cafes are within walking distance, offering guests a variety of nearby dining nearby options.

Originally constructed by European immigrants in 1870 and recently restored. All 15 suites enjoy a view of the bay, as does the breakfast room where complimentary morning meals offer a picturesque start to the day. An outdoor terrace also provides ideal views of the bay. There is space to barbecue and enjoy the hot tub during nice weather, and the terrace can be covered and climate-controlled for use during winter.

Historic Gervasoni is a great spot for a wine tour, as local and internationally grown wine is very important to the hotel. The Wine Restaurant features a legendary wine cellar in the basement, which includes nearly 200 labels from seven countries. The Restaurante Di Vino (Wine Restaurant) offers a blend of Chilean cuisine and international flavors in a beautiful setting. Terrace seating is available, allowing for an ideal fusion of the best food, drink, and views in town.

2. The Hotel Fauna

The Hotel Fauna is located on Pasaje Dimalow in the center of Cerro Alegre. This 3-star boutique hotel is charming and quirky and is most notable for its terrace restaurant. Residents can enjoy an evening meal with elevated views of some of the nicest parts of the city while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Basking in the golden hues of the evening light serves to create a magical dining experience.

The rooms are simple but tastefully designed with wooden finishes. I recommend the superior category because for a little extra money you can enjoy views of Valparaiso Bay and the highly aesthetic Cerro Concepcion. The hotel is located only 5-minutes away from the town center and you can also descend to the lower reaches of the city by a funicular (city elevator) which s just 50ft from the entrance to the hotel.

3. Casa Higueras

Located in a refurbished 1920’s manor this 4-star + boutique hotel combines a fusion of warmth and elegance with magnificent views from its elevated location. By all means, a modern hotel the interior’s style maintains the early 20th-century aesthetics of its origins and in that sense gives it a feel which is consistent with the city of Valparaiso as a whole. The spacious rooms are beautifully designed, with rich, warm finishes. I recommend choosing a higher category room with views of the bay.

The hotel is located close to the Fauna and you can also take a funicular to the city center. It is also right next to the Baburizza Palace Museum. The MarAlegre restaurant serves fantastic food and offers guests magnificent views of the bay. There is also an infinity pool, constructed seamlessly into a garden at the front of the hotel, ideal for relaxing and enjoying breathtaking views of the Cerro Concepcion. In a nutshell, this hotel is a gem.

4. Zero Hotel

With its corrugated tin exterior and light airy colors, the Zero hotel has a distinctly maritime feel which is fitting for the city of Valparaiso. The property, originally constructed in the 1880s and converted into a 9-room boutique hotel in 2007. As with the other hotels on this list the Zero Hotel has great views of both city and sea. The rooms are airy and luminous with light blue finishes and high ceilings although I recommend selecting the “portero” category rooms as they are the ones with the best views.

You can enjoy ocean views and have breakfast on one of the severalΒ  terraces that are built into the front of the building. There is also a garden which has several levels on the hotel front. Being that there are only 9-rooms. the service is top-notch and we consider this a great high-end boutique option.

About Valparaiso Chile

Conveniently located only 2-hours from Santiago, Valparaiso is a UNESCO World Heritage City that oozes with old-World maritime charm. The hilly cityscape is draped in multicolored houses and dissected by cobblestoned walkways. Vibrant street art gives an air of bohemian cool and it is only fitting that this is the city where the great literary luminary Pablo Neruda decided to see out his Autumn years. In fact, you can visit his home on one of our Valparaiso tours.
