Explore Colombia’s Amazon region on this adventure tour. Los Llanos is a gigantic area of plain in eastern Colombia which extends right up to the Venezuelan frontier. It is composed of vast estate farms, wide rivers and green fields whose only limit is the horizon. With it, the Amazon region takes up over half the total area of Colombia. The Amazon and her numerous tributaries flows through the jungle, crossing several national parks and immense savannas, enabling the visitor to see the jungle and the secrets it holds. Leticia is the base for a number of environmental research projects, while Villavicencio, the region’s other major city, is the gateway to Los Llanos.

Day 1

After leaving Bogotá in the morning we begin our journey at an altitude of 3200 meters and continue amid the hills of the eastern Andes before descending to Villavicencio, the economic and commercial centre of Los Llanos. The six hour journey offers a breathtaking combination of steep precipices, canyons and mountain peaks, with various opportunities to stop and enjoy the view along the way. After arrival in Villavicencio, transfer to the El Llano Hotel (or another hotel of same category).

2 nights including American breakfast.

Six horses with saddles are tied to posts under a wooden shelter in Villavicencio, standing in a row with ropes attached to their harnesses. The background reveals lush greenery and the inside of the shelter.
Day 2

Today is your chance to experience a day in the life of a Los Llanos cowboy by means of a trip by jeep through the vast savannahs here known as the 'Llanos Orientales' (Eastern Plains). Next we visit a typical 'Finca' (farm), and a take a horseback ride across the seemingly endless prairies. Towards the end of the day, our trip takes us to Alto Menegua, where we will be able to appreciate one of this region's splendid, colourful sunsets, followed by the twilight of Los Llanos, more poetically known as 'El Sol de los Venados,' meaning 'The Deerhunters Sun.' Return to the hotel for a good night's sleep.
