Couple taking a selfie on a tour of Brazil Brazil is the largest country in South America, with amazing opportunities for tourism. It is centrally located and an easy connection to most surrounding countries. Its location is ideal – close to the equator, the Atlantic coastline, rivers, and forests. All of which offer an enormous number of itineraries to be explored. Find out how you should explore all of Brazil’s highlights with our beginner’s guide to planning a tour of Brazil!

How to Experience Brazil’s Culture

Woman in traditional Brazilian attire in Salvador da Bahia The official language of Brazil is Portuguese. However, many Brazilians speak English and Spanish as well. You can also find families of German background in the south, and of Italian background in the states of São Paulo and Paraná. Brazilians generally act very openly, receptive and attentive with tourists. The locals love to meet new people and share experiences. You can make friends for life within hours at a local bar or on the beach in Rio. Pro tip: If you are looking for cultural destinations, we recommend starting in Minas Gerais. The historic towns from the gold rush and the must-see Inhotim Museum of Contemporary Art are sure to mesmerize you.

How To Prepare for Brazil’s Climate

Beach in Brazil with sun and a rainbow Most of the country has a tropical climate, though Brazil’s weather varies per region. Therefore, we recommend that you drink plenty of liquids and wear comfortable clothes. Also consider protecting yourself from the sun with a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. It is also recommended to avoid direct sun exposure between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, due to its intensity. In destinations such as the Pantanal and the Amazon, bring repellent against insects. Also, try to be mindful of only eating Brazilian foods that have received proper refrigeration. And in regards to water, bottled water is recommended.

How To Get To Brazil

Airplane Due to its continental size, most visitors travel to many destinations by plane. The country’s major domestic airlines are Latam, Gol, and Azul. Most international visitors arrive at Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (Galeão – GIG) in Rio de Janeiro or Aeroporto International de Guarulhos (GRU) in São Paulo. There are also international arrivals in Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, and Porto Alegre, among others To enter Brazil, it is not mandatory to vaccinate against any type of illness. However, there are areas with Vaccination Recommendation (ACRV); where it is recommended visitors are vaccinated against yellow fever before visiting.

How to Enter Brazil

Brazil's country flag It’s never been easier to travel to Brazil due to the waiving of visa requirements for the citizens of the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia. This starts on June 17, 2019, and will allow those citizens to travel for up to 90 days without a visa! This update received encouragement by Brazil’s dedicated efforts to encouraging tourism into the country.

What to See on a Tour of Brazil

Brazil Cities

Birds-eye-view of Rio in Brazil Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and home to some of the most famous landmarks. These landmarks include Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain. In February / March, Rio hosts the largest and most beautiful carnival parade in the world at the Sambadrome. Look into Rio’s Carnival and Colonial Treasures Tour to see how you can experience the world-famous carnival! If you’re more into the night-life and party scene, definitely check out São Paulo. There they have many classic bars and nightclubs, as well as samba schools and small community jam sessions.

Beaches in Brazil

Ipanema Beach in Brazil If you are looking for a laid-back vacation where you spend most of your time relaxing on the beach, think about visiting the beaches of Paraty near Rio, or near Salvador (Bahia) and Olinda (Pernambuco).  Brazil also contains world-renowned beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, which are definitely recommended. The Lencois Maranhenses Luxury Adventure Tour is a perfect place to begin looking into beach tours.

Nature in Brazil

Brazil Iguazu Falls Iguassu Falls is one of Brazil’s National Parks and has become one of the most iconic travel destinations in Brazil. Within the falls are 275 jumps; where they flow around 1,500 cubic meters of water per second. With spectacular waterfalls amongst a backdrop of dense rainforest, Iguaçu Falls National Park is a must-see destination.   Meeting of the Waters Brazil also is home to a piece of the Amazon Rainforest. One of the highlights in the Amazon is the Meeting of the Waters. This is where you can see the confluence of the black water of the Rio Negro and the white water of the Rio Solimões. This is due to the differences in the temperature, speed and water density of the two rivers. You can choose either a river cruise, like the Tucano River Cruise or to stay at one of the jungle lodges, like the Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge, in order to experience this spectacular phenomenon.   Jaguar in Pantanal, Brazil Pantanal is one of the best places to see wildlife in Brazil. As an open habitat, the animals are easy to observe. Many visitors can see animals such as cute capybaras, sunbathing caiman, and swinging capuchin monkeys. Birdwatchers will be amazed by over 550 species recorded in the area. Pantanal is also the jaguar-watching capital. With boat trips into the Puerto Jofre area, visitors can experience encounters with the biggest cats in the Americas.
