Luggage on the train to Machu Picchu is limited to 5 kg per person, so pack light and leave the majority of your luggage in your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
Comfortable footwear is very useful when walking around the ruins. Be sure to take your camera, but leave your selfie-stick at home – they are not allowed at Machu Picchu.
