Machu Picchu is on the edge of the Andes where the mountains start to fall away towards the Amazon Rainforest. The climate, therefore, is warmer than Cusco, but cooler than the Amazon Basin. The best chance of cloud-free skies are from May to September which is the dry season and considered the best time to visit Machu Picchu, though visits are possible and worthwhile year-round.
