Valparaiso is one of the best places to visit on a tour of Chile. Before the construction of the Panama Canal, Valparaiso was the “Jewel of the Pacific”. This charming port town, considered once to be the most important port in western South America, is now the perfect escape from the busyness of Santiago. Visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and admire its beautifully persevered 19th-century urban infrastructures. The hillside funicular (Funicular Concepcion) leads visitors to the best view of the city, full of church spires, colonial mansions, and colorful buildings. While on a tour here, you’ll soon realize why poets, painters, and philosophers were drawn to this vibrant port town. Today, Valparaiso attracts international visitors with its unique history and bohemian flair. Head to Paseo Gervasoni and gaze at the impressive wall murals and local art galleries. Then, explore Pablo Neruda’s house, and don’t leave without sampling the local seafood, sopa marina.
You can get to Valparaiso Chile by bus or by private transfer. We recommend a private transfer. We organize private transfers by car from your hotel in Santiago to your hotel in Valparaiso. You can request a guide as well. On your way, stop by a winery in the Casablanca Valley and taste some of Chiles premier wines. This is a perfect start your weekend getaway.
We recommend staying at Hotel Fauna. Located on Alegre Hill, Hotel Fauna is an excellent, modern 4* hotel with an emphasis on natural amenities. The interior is lined with timber recycled from buildings in the area gives the hotel a warm, comfortable feel. It also has an outdoor bar and a restaurant that offers some of the best views in the city. Hotel Fauna is close to the main highlights in Valparaiso and I highly recommend it.
At La Concepcion, enjoy excellent Chilean and international cuisine complemented by some of the best views in the city from Cerro Concepcion. The seafood is fresh and delicious! They also have a great wine list with an extensive Chilean selection.
