Top 11 Argentina Wine Tours

There are two main regions for Wine Tours in Argentina – Mendoza, and Salta. Sip Malbec along the Mendoza Wine Trail while enjoying views over vineyards and the Andes mountains in the distance. There is plenty to do here for several days – take an Uco Valley Wine Tour, visit wineries in Lujan de Cuyo or for something different take a cooking class, go horse riding or take an e-bike tour as part of your Argentina wine tour. Stay in the center of the city of Mendoza or a little way outside on a vineyard.

In the north of Argentina, the area around Salta is Argentina’s lesser-known wine area. Cafayate is a small town a few hours from the city and surrounded by vineyards. This area produces Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon plus other reds but is particularly famous for Torrontes – a white wine. The landscapes around Salta are rugged and provide a beautiful backdrop to your Argentina Wine Country Tour.

Endless possibilities await for your dream Argentina Wine Tour!

Argentina is one of the strongest makers of wine in South America. Mendoza is the main area for wine-growing, due to its year-round sunshine. The wines are delicious here, especially in view of the snow-capped Andes Mountains beyond the wineries, glistening with sunshine. There’s also fine dining restaurants and gourmet cooking classes in Mendoza, so you can pair your wines with great food.

But you can also try activities like horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking, and mountain biking while on one of our Argentina wine tours. Mendoza is located near the Andes Mountains, and so there’s great hiking. Plus, the rushing waters of the Mendoza River make for great white water rafting.

So come for the unique and delicious wines, but stay for the whole experience.

Argentina Wine Travel FAQ’s

Thinking about an Argentina wine trip? Here’s a list of frequently asked questions we often hear from our guests.

When should I go to Argentina wine country?

The best seasons to visit are a little different in Mendoza to Salta. Mendoza is great year-round and spring and autumn are particularly pleasant with rich colors and plenty of activity in the vineyards. The Vendimia Festival takes place in March, this is a celebration of the harvest and is an excellent though busy time to visit. Salta and Cafayate are perfect to visit between January and April and September and December as these periods avoid the somewhat wet months of May to August.

What wine is Argentina known for?

The big one is Malbec but many other wines are produced in Argentina too. Other reds include Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Around Salta, in addition to reds, some white wine is produced at cooler, higher altitudes, particularly Torrontes.

How many days do you need in Mendoza?

We recommend at least two full days to explore the vineyard and wineries around Mendoza. This gives time to visit several vineyards and get a proper feel for the area. You may also have time for a cooking class, gentle cycling trip in the vineyards or horse riding.

What are the best wine tasting and winery tours in Salta?

The best area to visit for wine tasting is Cafayate. This is about three hours by road from Salta and is an attractive journey in itself, passing through rugged valleys and canyons. Once at Cafayate, there are a number of wineries that can be visited before either returning to Salta or better still staying the night in Cafayate. Around Molinos and Cachi there are also some wineries, the landscape here is even more impressive and making a circuit combining Salta, Cafayate, Molinos and Cachi over a few days is highly recommended.
